I am most likely going to be purchasing a set of foglights w/ brackets and switch but no wiring. I was wondering what I can use to wire the fog lights. I was told speaker wire would do the job. Any other ideas? :talon:

why not use the origional wiring/switch? that's what I'm did with mine and it's worked great for over a year now

Because I never had fog lights factory installed in my car. As I stated above, I am getting the interior switch w/ the foglights but no wiring. So I would like to know how to go about wiring the fogs in. (No there is nothing in the tech forums)

Is there any place I can buy stock spec fog light wires?

Most fogs come with wiring so don't count that out. Otherwise just buy some 12 gauge soft wire and run it. (I believe that's what mine came with).

I ran a hot wire from the battery and good ground to a relay (look at the fuel pump wire instal in VFAQ if you need to see how to wire a relay) I then ran the wires from the relay to the lights witha slpice off my headlights as the switching wire. You could use your running lights if you want them on with those and not just the headlights.

I am getting the fogs from a DSMTuners member and he stated several times that he does not have the wiring for it. So I need to find a way to wire my fogs to the interior fog switch. :talon:

Are they stock fogs or after market?

Either way, but especially if they are stock, you should look at the stock switch site for the plug to the switch. If it's there just trace the wiring as far as it goes and extend it if you have to.

If you aren't concerned with being able to turn it on with the stock switch then you should wire it to come on with running lights or head lights like I mentioned before.

The fogs are stock

If you are refering to me already having a stock fog switch inside I dont. Car never came with foglight option. So there are no wires to trace, I already looked

I didn't expect you to have a switch, but often times wiring will be run for those things and just the obvious components left out.

In that case, I would recomend either wiring it direct to a pre-existing light (as mentioned), putting in an aftermarket switch, or trying to get a hold of the plug in harness for the stock switch. If you go the latter route, you should be able to run custom wires after that.

The fog lights in my 97 gsx have never worked, I bought the car this way. I decided to try to fix them but I don't think the wiring is right. Its not using stock wiring but is using the stock lights... the wiring goes like this:

-ground from fog lights goes to negative terminal on the battery
-other wire from fog lights goes to under the dash to a 20/30 relay
-relay has 1 wire coming from the fog lights, 1 ground wire, 1 wire going into the fusebox under the dash, 1 wire going to a switch
-switch has 1 wire coming from the relay, 1 ground wire, 1 wire going into the fusebox under the dash

I'd assume whoever wired this was trying to get power from in the fusebox, its wired into one of the empy fuse slots with a 20amp fuse with it as well. When the car is on, and I flip the switch it has a light on it that lights up... but the fog lights don't go on. Any suggestions?

fog light bulbs work for sure, I just replaced them. Is there a way to check for power w/out using a tester? I don't have one. I'll look to see where its grounded in a bit. Does the wiring that I described sound correct?

thanks

Lick the end of the plug for the fog light.. if you get shocked there is power.. if not... then no power..
Other wise jsut get a volt meter or a test light..

For god's sake, testers are ten bucks. As with most things on a DSM, the switch completes the ground circuit. Run fused power to a Bosch relay, and ground the circuit with the foglight switch. Power the relay coil with the parking light circuit so you can't leave the fogs on unless you leave all your lights on.
All DSMs are wired for foglights, you'd be best off to find the problem with the real circuit. If you don't have a shop manual, get one.

Well, I installed my fog lights on my 2g not to long ago, now its time to wire them up. They are the 97-99 eclipse 2gb fogs.
My car didn't come with fog lights, so I don't have the harness. My idea about wiring them up goes as follows..there is a picture for those of you who need a visual;

I plan on running a relay with 5 terminals;
-1 will power the first fog
-1 will power the second fog
-1 will be wired to a switch
-1 will be a ground
-1 will be a power source (battery)

The switch has three terminals;
-1 will be wired to the relay
-1 will be a power source
-1 will be a ground

The fog lights will be directly wired to the relay, and also grounded.

My question is, where can I hook up a fuse?? I want to hook up a fuse to make sure that if anything shorts, it's not going to ruin the fog lights, etc and start a fire. Furthermore, what size fuse should I use, and what gauge of wire?

If anyone has a similar set up or is proficient with wiring and wiring knowledge, please let me know. Thanks a lot guys!

1) You should run power from the headlight relay so they go off with the headlights (so you don't have to always remember to turn them off).
2) Use a 15A fuse and at least 18 gauge wire.
3) You've got it much more complicated than it needs to be. Wire it as shown in the attached picture (fog light from 99 Mitsu factory manual with switch added).
4) In fact, if you put in a wire (instead of the ground) from the fog light switch to the LO position of the column Hi/Lo dimmer passing switch, you will have the same circuit as the factory (this then only allows the fogs on with lo beam - not hi).

i have a 1996 eclipse Rs and i did the 97-99 front bumper conversion now i want to put the fog lights in(my car dont have them now) and i was wondering if there was wires already ran just no fog lights plugged in? and if not is there a harness you can buy or any other option?

I installed some stock fogs in my 95 Talon ESI. My car did not have wires, a fuse or relay for the wires going to the fog lights however, there was wiring going to the interior switch.

Here's what I did:

I bought a stock switch, but did not know where the wires going to that plug came from. There are 4 wires in this plug; 2 to power the light and 2 wires for the actual switch. So, I got out my multimeter and found out which wires were which.

I disconnected the wires from the plug and put the wire that was hot when the interior lights were on in one of the slots that was used for the switch circuit. For the second slot used for the switch, I cut the original wire, put it back in the slot and ran that wire to the engine bay.

NOTE: I did it this way so I could have my fog lights on with just the running lights.

I got a relay from Radio Shack and connected the wire from the switch, a ground, a wire from the battery and a wire going to my fog lights. I also put a fuse holder and fuse between the battery and the relay.

Then you just have to run your wires.

And if you ever drive at night in serious snow, you'll find out how good an idea this is. That "Jump to hyperspace" looked great in Star Wars, but it's hard as hell to drive in. Having just the fogs on cuts the glare by a good 70%.

That's what "All weather" bulbs are for. Yellow :).

i got the stock wiring in the car with no switch but the connector is back there anybody know the what wires are which so i can wire up some after markets in with the stock harnesss?

Update on my fog light wiring, I ended up having a shop put the wires in for me, then I went to a electrical supply company and got a momentary on off switch. I then gutted the back of the stock fog light switch and put it in there. So now when I push the stock fog light switch on, it holds the switch in, turning the fogs on, and when I push the switch off it releases the switch turning off the fogs. I will get pictures up later.

8 inches or less off any direct battery terminal wire! This is super important with larger wires, like 18 gage and bigger.
