Hey guys I am about to invest in a PTE turbo (GT3255) and wanted to know how many are running around on dsm's and how reliable or how long they last. I don't wanna throw 1,000 away on a turbo and have it last a few thousand miles. Please list the model of the turbo and how long you've had it and what you think of it. Thanks guys, Kevin.

Ive heard people complain about them, but ive had mine probly 10,000miles, and i beat the piss out of the car. Still as if it were brand new.

My 50 trim died on me after about 1700 miles. They stood by thier warranty and replaced it, can't speak for the new one though it's only been run about 60 miles.

What happend to it? Bearing Failure? Where do you get the oil from on your PTE's?

PTE's must be feed from the oil filter housing, PTE will void warranty if they find out it wasnt. Dont get enough pressure from the head. I feed from the oil filter housing, and have no balance shafts so i push quite a bit of oil thru it.

My SCM50 has been going strong at 20+psi for over 5,000 miles so far with no troubles.

I got the oil from the filter housing as directed. They told me the thing was "toast" and looked similar to one driven 70,000 miles. I didnt beat on it, took it to the track once. Not sure what the reason was for it.

Wow everyone on here has 10k miles or less. I thought I would see some higher mileage. PTE has been around for a while now.

mine has less than 1k miles on it, but i was loving it. i am having some leaking around the center section/hot side connection. Here is a link to the pics of it. It is a 50 trim w/ .63 A/R. I know PTE has been around forever, so don't base your judgement on this one rare occasion. I'm sure there are tons of people who didn't have problems.

BTW: the turbo doesn't have any shaft play, the bearings are nice and tight and the car is still driveable and raceable. I just didn't like what i saw when i cralled under my car and after I removed the turbo for closer examination of it.

yeah I won't and as of now I am still planning on ordering the gt3255 on friday(pay day). Anyone else?

Just order the turbo and don't worry about it. PTE stands behind their warranty and the turbos are awesome, I know many other people not on this board that run their turbos and have had no problems, everything from a GT28r to a T-88. :thumb:

My old car was an ITR with a built motor and a PTE SC61. I put about 24000 KM's on it, sold it to my Aunt (yeah, a 50 year old woman driving a turbo ITR  ) in Arizona and when I last visited her she had put another 14000 KM's on it. That's about 23,500 miles on an SC61, Stage 5 exhaust, .63 A/R T3 housing, TO4E comp housing :thumb: PTE has great customer service, never had a problem with their turbos.

Right, as I said before PTE stayed to thier word a replaced the turbo free of charge when mine went. I'm really really hoping that it was just a fluke thing though because they made it very clear that they will only do waranty work once and if it happens again its in my hands.
:shhh:

i have personally had horrible luck with PTE. i orderd a SC61 from them and put it on my fully built 6 bolt (eagle weisco JB stage 3 head) before i put 10 miles on it the turbo blew up trashed the intake and exhaust wheels ant trashed the intake housing. called them up told them what happened they honered their warranty and fixed it. at that time i was running the feed line from the head. they told me the bearings were toast and told me i needed to run feed from the oil housing. ok.... i changed it. get the turbo back. looks good. put it on the dyno make 500+ whp using a switchable tranny. get it off the dyno drive down the street turn around boosted it to about 28 psi and pop it goes again. talk to PTE again they say theyll fix it and they do. they told me it was still because of oil.... :thumbdown there was no way for me to get more oil to the turbo i ran the feed line from the oil housing like they said  so i cant help but think that this turbo is just a piece of poo. well regardless i get it back and put it on again drive it for about 100 miles never relly got on it due to lack of high octane gas to run on. well when i go to get on the highway i hear it spool up and then pop i didnt think it was the turbo this time it sounded like a ic pipe pop off. it wont bouild boost so i dont think much about it. get to a gas station check all the ic pipes...all good. uh oh. i take off my intake feel inside and what do ya know...trash the intake wheel was so torn up it wiggled around inside the intake housing like my fist in a coffee can. i pulled it off tear it down to my suprise the bearings are fine but the shaft has totally been sheared.  there is no reason for this to have happened! PTE said they wont fix it anymore. so now im screwed out of $1k. if you want my opinion PTE can die for all i care. no one but FP will get my money from now on. soon to come FPT67!

I've got the PTE PT67, 0 miles on it though :( hopefully sometime in the next week or two it'll get put to use.

Wow, My buddy just went threw 3 of the scm61's within 500 miles total. They kept trashing the compressor wheel and housing, just as you stated. :thumbdown

I am the person fp-green is referring to and I just got the turbo back from the 3rd rebuild. First was due to oil feed coming from head from previous owner and I had to pay. I moved the oil feed to the oil filter housing and then had it go up again. They rebuilt under warranty due to "slight oil contamination". Got it back and 20 miles later it went up again. :thumbdown Sent it back and the rebuilt under warranty again but blamed it on "slight oil contamination" and being "starved for oil". I'm gonna double check this oil issue and then pop it back in. Being I have a brand new built motor with several oil changes under it's belt, there shouldn't be any issues. I'm gonna double check anyways. :thumb: Let you know how it goes.... BTW Overall PTE has great customer service and my last 2 rebuilds have had 1 week turnaround times, if anyone wants to know.

Well now I am leaning further and further away from the gt3255 and PTE overall. In fact I am really l looking at the AGP RS49 as I want a 50 trim with the option for an int. gate. Also, that is a direct bolt on with excellent performance potential that wont cost an arm and a leg. What do you guys think? Or should I ask this question in a new thread?

Just curious, with what size line were you feeding/draining the oil to/from the turbo? PTE turbos have held up forever on other platforms, and are renowned for their quality and durability. I wonder why dsmers have so many problems with them.

What about SBR's turbos? They just made 600+ hp on one with a stock ecu

I was under the impression that SBR used PTE turbos.
