Here's the last of the pics... Still need some tweaking, but will work for now...

Just to let you know, keep an eye on that 90 degree rubber elbow going into the intercooler. Dave from Dejon Tool used to sell them with their FMIC kit. I emailed him asking to buy one from him and he said that the rubber elbow cannot take boost pressure. I took his word for it and got an aluminum elbow instead. Just trying to help you out :)

Had it done for a while, pics

hey guys...awesome thread! minus the crap talkin'...but still good inflo, thanks!!

quick question, did someone say it would be hard to run the short route? has anyone done it? or would I be ok using the existing hard piping I have (running the stock route). btw, my car's an a/t :D

you could probly use a 90 deg elbow right off the pass side of the ic, but then you would have to fab the whole uicp, but if you can do it go for it, just look at how dejontools fmic pipes go and that should give you an idea

My .02

Is that any type of short route piping on this core would be:

1. Pretty Hard to do
2. Not that bineficial

I have this core on my car so keep that in mind, but most of us buying this arent buying it because it is the very best. But because it is cheap and will get most of us where we want to be. Short route piping to me is a waste of time and I am not even sure it is possible. Most cores that run short route piping have the passenger side outlet facing the engine not out the side.

Good luck whichever route you go. :thumb:

i was at acosta racing today, needed some welding done. Guess what i see up on the wall, yup, a johny racecar 8inch core. The ####er's are selling just the core for 600. LOL. I even told him what core it is and who makes it and that he is selling it for 200 some shipped on ebay. The guy was like, oh yea? thats cool.

the short route piping wasn't really hard to do.. all you have to do is think on how the bends and couplings will work for you... if my friend and I can do it on a galant vr4, and its side to side, then anybody can do it... its very simple and all it is that you have to take your time and of course... if you are working on your own car.. you would make it work and make it nice as possible... is it beneficial?? well... first of all... its much shorter than a setup that would use the stock route and that's for sure... do i feel a difference? yes.. even though my car isn't tuned or have any injectors... it performs better than before.. that's just my two cents... :thumb:

You have pipe dreams if you consider your set up to have short route piping.

With a side to side flow on our cars, it is IMPOSSIBLE to run short route piping. You must have an end tank design like the Buschur or PTT intercooler kits to run short route, period. I would say that any decent short route intercooler kit has a yard or more less piping than your set up.

:thumb: I agree on this core it is a waste of time and effort. Just keep it simple and you will be happy.

Isn't there another forum you could go to and spread your wealth of knowledge?

By "short route piping" many people are refering to plumbing the intake so that the intercooler outlet doesnt connect to the stock UIP location. Instead the intake works its way under the radiator overflow, intake, and up above the transmission to the throttle body elbow. This eliminates very little in terms of intake length but it does reduce bends. I dont see any problem plumbing the intake like that...

does this johnny racecar still make 2g kits? I searched ebay and all i could find where 1g kits.

He is selling directly from his site now. I dont think that the core matters 1g or 2g. His site is www.johnnyracecar.com

Yes but with FWD98GST setup, it is prolly one of the many shortest routes possible with the side to side configuration. :D

According to coltboostin, there's some unspoken, official definition of "shout route piping" that is out there saying it must have an intercooler with outlets facing the engine like the big SBR i/c. He'll argue it to death so just agree to disagree on this STUPID subject

I won’t. You can call it what you like, but the unofficial definition of short route pipeing for the DSM community is for SHORT LENGHT PIPES used with those type inte4rcoolers yes. Ask and DSM vet what his idea for short route piping is and see what he comes up with.
