On my 2g 95 esi (yes oooh a non turbo) since i bought the thing the speedo has not worked. I have replaced the gear that is attached to the speed sensor, the speed sensor itself, the speedo cluster, inspected the wiring and as near as i can tell with out pulling the whole wiring harness and starting from scratch there is no reason why it wont work.
the ce light comes on every now and again and sometimes will go off for a vss error code. (nearly failed smog when it came on in middle of test not once but twice) The only part of the speedo that has any life to it is the trip odometer reading and that seems to only turn 1/10 of a mile for about every 10 or more miles i go.
got any suggestions that i havent tried yet (aside from getting rid of the non/turbo and going turbo:tease:)

thanks in advance.

by the pinion gear, if you mean the gear attached to the vss itself, yes it is still there and is in good working order, all teeth are there and i attached it to a drill to test it and the speedo read out verified that the vss was in good working order.

now is there a chance the worm gear inside the tranny is no good/missing or whatever?

finally had to pull the engine out to overhgaul it and while i had it out i opened the tranny. well it was the teflon worm gear that had worn down due wear from an ill fitted sensor. it had actually popped off. dropped another in there that i secreted from a junkyard find and bingo works once again....but it sure was a hell of a lot of work to get just to that one gear....
