Hi everyone I'm now to this website but not new to dsms :) I am having a problem with my 92 rs laser...... so I was driving the other day and it just died on me. I try to start it and nothing. I unplugged the maf and it runs so I swapped the maf with a new one it does the same thing so I swapped my 2g maf back to my 1g maf and still the same thing so I thought it might be the ecu. I put my friends in and it does the same thing as well. I traced back my maf wires to the ecu and none are grounding out anywhere so at this point. I'm stumped any ideas?

That has my head hurting and its not even my problem. ummm I dont know much to say to that. Unhook the battery connections to reset settings.

Yup tried that LOL I am thinking the maf sensor is not getting power I am gonna test it out tomorrow with my ohm meter

Make your post clearer... but here goes. You had a 2g MAF you removed it Rewired the 1g MAF and installed didnt help. Then you tried your friends ECU nothing and then after you rewired the 2g MAF back still nothing??? The car runs better with the MAF unhooked?

Have you done a BLT yet? It sounds like boost leak to me. I recently worked on a 1g that had a 2g MAF and I figured it was the issue. After a quick BLT we discovered it had a BL. And somebody had adjusted the CAS and BISS screw to compensate and make the car idle. It ran like crap but idled good.

Try to clarify your first post or Edit it very hard to understand what you were talking about??? and let us know more details!!

ok sorry if my post wasnt very clear so here goes after my car just died all of a sudden i grabbed a known working 2g maf sensor from my friend. i plugged in that maf sensor and it did the same exact thing. so i rewired for the 1g maf and the same thing also happened. so i rewired for my 2g maf sensor and thought it might be the ecu. i grabbed my friends ecu out of his running talon and put it in my car the problem still exsists. as far the boost leak test goes when i have my maf sensor unplugged i can rev it up past 3k rpms and it will blow off pretty hard so im not sure if it has a boost leak. if you need more info please let me know :) thanks for the info

your venting to atmosphere. And define "blowing off hard" I would still bet on a boost leak. You stated it just started acting up? I would have done a BLT before rewiring 3 MAFs and an ECU.

Start with a BLT post results and well try to help more.

Good Luck

Yes i am venting to the atmosphere. and i am running a super sequential bov and at about 4k rpms it blows off really loud and hard. But ok i will make a blt tester and do the leak test and let ya know what happens.

ok so i did a boost leak test today and found little leaks like the throttle body gasket which i replaced, and my emmissions lines had some cuts but other than that nothing big. I started the car and the same exact problem still exists i also swapped out my coolant temp sensor because my friend said that happened to his and thats what fixed his issue but like i said mine is still running the same way. what should i check for next?

The car just died? Possibly verify battery terminals are secure and clean. -----Word of advice, recirculate that bov & avoid lots of unexplainable issues!!! GOOD LUCK

venting is like having a major boost leak. Sometimes symptoms are the same as unplugging the MAF. I would suggest recirculating the BOV. Then reading the VFAQ on how to properly adjust your BISS.

Make sure everything is squared away with your timing first. Keep in mind with the 2g MAF installed you might have to compensate with a tune and usually adjustments to the CAS for timing are necessary as the 2g MAF draws more air and will make the car run pig rich that along with venting is enough to make one run horrible.

Good Luck

well my car has always vented to the atmosphere and never had this issue before. like i had said it just died all of a sudden so i doubt that would have caused this issue. as far as timing goes i checked that yesterday and its dead on.
