Okay, I am currently tracking a 1993 Viper (road racing). After gaining some experience and talking with some other viper racers, I have found that the Viper is a very heavy car and does not have much excess fat to be trimmed. A full race viper (no interior, heater box and fan, airbags, ABS.....) weighs 3100lbs. That is heavy for a track car. I understand the AWD GSX turbo weighs about 3200 in stock trim. I am looking for a 350hp at the wheels/2000lb car.
Questions:

1-How much weight can be shed from this car? keep in mind it will no longer be street legal, and be trailered to the tracks. Not even windshield wipers.

2-How would you rate the stock handling characteristics? (push the nose/snap the rear)

3-weight distribution? 50/50, 60/40..... (f/r) Again keep in mind everything will be stripped, so if there is something heavy in the rear that will be stipped will it affect the distribution?

4-last of all, does anyone track their car (again road racing) at any level and in any trim?

1. there is no way you will get it down to 2000 lbs, not even close. unless you start cutting the frame and removing all the body panels.

2. stock? the chassis blows, the suspension blows. it can be made a little better but still no porsche.

3. front heavy, even more so after you strip the car.

4. yup, and my car is completely stripped, except for windshield wipers which i still have LOL.

for handling sake, stock a 2g will do better. But performance and weight you should go 1g, they are lighter to begin with plus with minor mods the turbo and engine cna go futher and boost better. Good luck...I would go with a honda teg r for road race, just suck it up and learn fwd cause the teg r can staock oyut handle mild msuspension modded dsms( still not fatser).

Another problem with the AWD DSM's is the way the engine is mounted, and the way the AWD system is set up. The car acts like its FWD, only with more traction.
If you are serious about road racing a DSM, a FWD might be better simply because it weighs less.

yeah a bit better for road racing...yet my dsm at 120 on a windy road is all grip baby....I know Im stupid, but I wanted to kill the t25 and by the time I noticed i was speeding good luck
