Well, I want to get into autocross next year with my 2g and had a couple of questions for all of you experienced folks out there. I have searched but with no luck, is there any type of prize money involved with placing in the top of your class? I read that there was a trophy but I was wondering since there was drivers fees if a percentage of that went to pay out any amount of prize money. Also, in the rules for street prepared it stated with aftermarket seats they must be bolted in factory locations, I am assuming you can use a seat bracket then to bolt the seat in right? That makes sense to me, I just wanted to make sure so I didn't show up and wasn't able to race because of my seat brackets. Thanks!;)

There is no prize money, the fees go towards up keep of the timing and scoring equipment and insurance costs.

One of my goals in the next year or two is to create a pool of money for regional and national DSM championship winners. I'll start working on a plan here pretty soon. ;)

That would be VERY kewl Chris :thumb:

I would like to know what you had in mind and help if I can in any way man. Just let me know :)

Trouble is, as soon as there's a purse in racing, you pull in the "pro" racers who think nothing of spending ten times the value of the purse to win it.

I'm affraid that already happens. SCCA runoffs every year just as an example. And jsut about every other SCCA & NASA regional event. There are people that spend LOADS, and I mean LOADS of money on their cars to win "nothing" except trophies and maybe some contingency money from companies. While other folks, like the every day weekend warrior try to compete against people with $20,000 in their engines, chassis setup by Panoz or someone like that. If some how you could limit the prize pool to be DSM exclusive it would be much better. It could happen.

Some people manage to make a nice little bit off the contingency money. Just keep in mind that once you start winning money for doing events like this, there's now no way your insurance company will cover you under a standard policy. Not a big deal if it's a purpose built racecar of course. A lot of times in life, it's cheaper to not win money or take free stuf... Just something to think about...

there can be prize money, but it takes sponsorship like this:
2008 California Divisional Series

as for insurance, i doubt it matters whether you collect cash or not. Most fine print i've seen will exclude coverage if car is in a race, speed contest, practice for such, and/or on a racing surface/facility.

Could you guys be nice enough to post a link to these "rules"
When I search I find like a million types of racing and are unshure of which you guys are running in...

Most I know of is NASA....

Yea yea I know "Idiot" But LOL somes has to ask..

What will happen most times is that you're just not covered while at the racing facility, but still are on the street. Once you start taking money, then it's considered commercial use and you're not covered at all under the typical insurance (as in "get in an accident on the street and have a nasty surprise that you're not covered when they find out you raced and won money"). There is insurance designed for this purpose, but unless you know you have it, then you don't have it. ;)
