I'm sure you have been dieing to hear how all my recent changes have panned out. :p I've had a few weeks of driving around to experience and adjust this stuff. No track days as of yet though.

First up, 50 trims rock. Less boost (so far) way more power, acceptable lag. Now there is no spooling right when I want to shift in town. The external wastegate is rock steady at controlling boost too. I can't say if the FP exhaust manifold works any better, as way too many other related changes were done at the same time.

Ksport struts, control arms, toe eliminators, extra camber? The springs feel great, for really STIFF springs. As predicted by JToby, the valving seems to be compression-heavy though. All the solid links, hard bushings etc. have increased feel and feedback so much, I can't even describe it, it's night & day! Combined with 3* and 2* of camber, the new tires and wheels, this thing corners like a slot car. No excess dive, lean or slipping. She still needs to be cross-weighted though. The downside to all that stuff is a RIDICULOUS amount of drivetrain-gear noise. I plan to try installing a rear diff. crossmember with rubber bushings to quell that racket.

The adjustable brake proportioning valve works great, I've only had to turn down the rear brakes a tiny bit to get good balance with the street pads.

The FMIC that I said I'd never get, seems to work fine on the street. No change in coolant temps, even in this recent heatwave with the A/C blasting. I've ducted the nose a bunch of ways, for high speeds, so I'll see what happens at the track. (crosses fingers)

I can not wait to see how this stuff works on the track. :rocks:

Feels good to get her back on the road. I made a similar change this offseason (bushings, coilovers, camber plates, balljoints, and tierods) and i agree, the feedback I get from the road surface is something I've never felt before. It's amazing.

Did you gut your interior out? if not, do that and you'll hear twice the road noise. I am thinking about taking my radio and all speakers out as I can hardly hear them anyways even with all the windows rolled up. My car is used for more track events and not so much a daily driver anymore.

Radio and speakers - what are those? Who listens to anything but the engine in a DSM these days? :)

I like to listen to Bob and Tom while I bounce and growl my way to work so I left the fronts in so far. :D

As soon as I get around to replacing the blown speaker in the passenger front door, I'll hopefully be able to hear my music again, Zach (De La Roche) can yell over that noise easily.

Not gutting this thing, even when the bar/seats/harnesses, etc. go in. I'm even going to carpet the vacant rear seat area, just on principal.

This is still a fully functional street vehicle, if only in spirit, and a few pounds of weight saving won't shave my lap times as much as seat time will.

I wish that I could maintain that attitude for more than five minutes at a time. If I spent one fifth of the time driving as I do pondering and performing mods, I wouldn't be the slug that I am. And this is proved every time a decent driver tries out my car. Heck, the main reason for the snug seats was to prevent Sam Strano from taking runs in my car.

Every year when I take my '95 GSX out of storage in spring I have to input the radio code again to use the radio. I just finally put the code in a few weeks ago. This gives you an idea how much I use the audio system in that car!

What adj. proportioning valve did you get, and how has it been getting it dialed in?

The basic knob style Wilwood one.

Setup was simple, turn the knob all the way open (no bias control) and do a few hard stops, dialing less rear brake 'till the back stops coming around. I turned it 1 full turn at a time, it is very close now at around 2 turns in. :thumb:

It helps that its right next to my leg.

You gonna make the time attack at BHF on the 25th of this month??? I am thinking of going, it would be nice to get other DSM'ers to go.

How is it plumbed? Do you have one output from the MC going to both fronts and the other output going to the prop valve? Or do you have the system sort-of corner-to-corner, but with the two rears coming together to go through the prop valve?

I didn't know about it, I haven't been on that track in a car yet. Since the clan I usually do track days with wouldn't be there with their trailers, (back up plan) and I have not yet acquired one of my own yet, I'd say it's doubtful. :(

I re-plumbed the whole thing in a f/r split style instead of the OEM diagonal split. The rear port on the M/C routes to a 2psi residual pressure valve, then tee's to each front wheel. The other (front) port routes to just under the seat, to some -3 braided hose, going to the valve bolted to the side of the console, then back to another tee, above the axle.

You are welcome.

I considered doing a tech write up, bit I type to slow and my adult ADD won't let me. ROFL

Minor correction: most of the increased gear noise was actually a front wheel bearing that I had incorrectly torqued. :coy: The noise is now rather subdued, so if my first assessment had turned anyone away from all the rod ends and firm subframe biscuits, go ahead with 'em, it's no big deal at all. :thumb:

Do you have photos or your suspension modds? Which rear toe elimintors did you do, heim joints or welded trailing arms? What are the uhmw rear sub frame bushings?I have most of your modds if you check my profile and photos. I did something new, rear sway bar links with heim joint at both ends.

I saw your rear sway links, they are cool. I used rod ends on mine, but combined with urethane. I'm thinking about changing to something like your design.

I have some pic's but not of the toe kit, the welds are... unattractive. I used "ultra heavy duty" rod ends, setup like the DSS deal.

UHMW is "Ultra High Molecular Weight" polyethelene, the Ray Peters bushings, in essence.

Another update is in order! As some of you have heard, my transmission has fallen on a sword recently, making my fall track day unlikely. :notgood:

Well, I got a working transmission from Elvenhome21, installed it with Twicks69's help, and barring any new destruction, I'll be at the MFBA track day in mid-October! I'll be posting the experience.

Also, with an intermediate shaft that has round bearings in it, my drivetrain racket has decreased yet again. Now Al Jourgansen doesn't have to yell over as much gear noise. :thumb:

Thank you Tim, Jason, and Charlene. You all rock. :rocks:

Great news Jim. I can't wait to see what you've done with the car. :D

We'll be at the MFBA event as well. Rich is planning on running it. Lethal_VR4 (Jon) is working hard to have his VR4 done by then. Then a handfull of us are coming up to spectate.

I love RA in the fall. The fall colors, the sounds of racecars, and you can't forget a visit to the Lake Street Cafe for the rack of lamb (which has made a grown man cry) and snooty waiters. ROFL

I will be there for Saturday only with the Archer car.

Excellent (Montgomery Burns voiceover) Get after it Jon!

dang, its on the one weekend in october that I can not attend. oh well. Hope to see ya guys next season at the track.
Try harder, it's Road America! :rocks:
