Maybe I'm reading this wrong?

3.3.2 Roll Bars
Roll bars or roll cages are strongly recommended in all cars. A roll
bar meeting the requirements of Appendix C, or a roll cage meeting
the requirements of Section 9.4 of the General Competition Rules
(GCR), is required in all A, B, C, and F Modified vehicles

Please post the link to where you are reading this. I race in SM at all sorts of SCCA events and do not have to have a roll bar.

It's the 2008 SCCA SOLO II rule book PDF. Made available on the SCCA website.

I think that came from the Modified category and not street modified.

You should not have to worry about a cage or roll bar in your car, at least not for a while.

tpi_roc misread; SM is not listed so there is no req
"required in all A, B, C, and F Modified vehicles"

1g/2g dsm's have a cbv, NOT bov. terms can make a difference in rules =)

Well, the guy running tech asked me if I changed the BOV, and I said "yes, its not a stock BOV," so he told me it goes in SM.
Oh well, that was nearly 2 years ago now that I think of it.

Why not toss on a 1g BOV and put the plastic cap on it, I highly doubt they will know it's not the FACTORY BOV for the 2g, I mean come on I don't call that cheating I call that fixing a factory #### up with a factory part off of the same kind of car, just older.

Thats just MO though.

But then thats why I doubt I will get into Auto X, with all my mods no telling what outlandish class it would put me in lol.

So with exhaust, fmic, aftermarket "CBV", MBC, intake, all the tuning that goes with it, coilovers (with camber plates), swaybars, poly everything, diffs, tires, what holds a DSM back from being competitive in SP?

C. Equipment and/or specifications may be exchanged between
different years and models of a vehicle if (a) the item is standard
on the year/model from which it was taken, and (b) the years/
models are listed on the same line of Appendix A (Street Prepared
Classes).

Appendix A
Mitsubishi
Eclipse all turbo (‘89-’99)
Starion Turbo
3000 GT non-Turbo

1g BOV on 2g is legal in street prep. Then again so is aftermarket.

Year and model must be the same. Meaning a 1g BOV came off a different year DSM.

From which it was taken, not from which it was put on.

to prevent an attempt to say your 20g came off of another car?

I mentioned the BOV cause of the guys post earlier when the tech asked about his BOV. Seems a simple solution might be to toss a 1g bov on it if it wont be breaking any rules. I mean hell unless your boosting really high that valve is going to be fine.

You can only swap parts from the same year and model DSM. A 1g BOV never came stock on a 2g DSM so that does not fall under that rule. Therefor, that 1g BOV you installed on your 2g is NOT stock.

Reading the rule without the definition would suggest it's perfectly legal. Only when you read the definition of model do I see your point.

12.3 MODEL
A group of cars of a given make which have virtually identical bodies
and chassis but are readily distinguished from other models of the
same make by virtue of a major difference in body appearance and/
or chassis design. The names by which the manufacturer designates
these groups have no bearing on this definition even though two
groups may be designated identically.

Either way, I would bet you could get away with it. And again IMO it's not like it's cheating. I mean MAYBE you would gain a few hp from not leaking boost that your turbo made and should not have been leaked in the first damn place.

I am not condoning cheating I am just saying in this instance IMO it's not. IMO it's a repair.

I'm more concerned with a DSMs suspension capabilities in its respective class for the mods allowed. The only thing a DSM did have going for it was its power potential and ability to put it down in a straight line, and the rules in all categories except the top prevents you from even that.

The DSM 2g stock suspension is a very well setup double wishbone suspension. Just get a good set of rubber and with some practice, you'll have a good chance of winning.

It may not sound like cheating to put a 1g BOV on a 2g, but its not how the car came from the factory. Cars are put into each class based upon factory specs/performance, once you change something from factory, it is no longer rated for that particular class and will/could be bumped into another class

I own a 1g. That's why I responded to a 6mo old thread with "I should have listened"

The part I'm still struggling with is how EVOs and many other mcpherson strutted vehicles can slaughter cars on the track yet the 1g is completely written off as virtually useless.

lots of other things besides the suspension needs to be taken into consideration. ACD/LSD is a huge advantage, more power, better gearing, wider (stock) tires, bigger brakes.
