It's crazy how many less lines there are on a non abs system. My 2G has abs and my 1G doesn't, what a difference in engine bays.

my white 1gB awd doesnt have ABS and my red 1gB awd "had" ABS....

the car without ABS stopped much better.

Now both cars have a more roomy engine bay.....finally.

That ABS crap weighs a good amount too....

I'm planning on moving my battery to the back of the car....Even more room under the hood.

Will that help for AutoX?

I think Jtoby weighed in the ABS system at something like 40 lbs. or so. Moving the battery will certainly help as you'll help even out the weight distribution a bit. If you don't feel like undertaking a battery relocation (not that it's very hard), you can always use a lightweight battery like a Braille or a Hawker Odyssey and shave 25-30 lbs.

Thanx for the great info on that Andy. I don't think the ABS system weights 40 pounds, but it is well over 30 pounds, thats for sure. I'm gunna find the ALCU ( anti lock control unit) for the abs and take that out too, should be in front of the right rear speaker somehere.

Anyone with a 1gB awd with abs ever remove the ALCU? How do I get rid of the ABS light on the instrument panel, besides taking out the light bulb for it? I already took out the abs fuse at the battery too.

I run a pretty loud sound system, and I require a nice battery like the Optima that I have.

Do you know if there are any batteries out there that perform like the Optima, are gel cell, enclosed, weigh less then the Optima, and cost around the same as an Optima?

If there is, I'm buying one tonight and relocating it to the back of the car.

You're probably right about the weight and if you are I stand corrected. We can always say it's 30+ and be good with it!

As far as batteries that will work for your system you can call Battery Mart:

and see what they tell you. I'm not sure if there are lightweight options for what you want to do, but they can certainly point you in the right direction. If you do end up with a heavier battery that's around stock weight, then I'd definitely do a relocation.

I sure am glad I did this elimination. I now have a lot more room to work with in the engine bay.

here's a couple pics of me tightening up the last fitting on the proportioning valve...

WTF, our engine bay's can hold the weight of a person? I've only done that in my friends 1974 chevy blazer

If you look closely, my left leg and right knee are right in the area where the ABS pump and all those brake lines used to be.....

Yep, our engine bays can hold up a person.....It held me up fine...and I weigh 170.
