Hi , my name is Dafan Zhang, I am actaully a professionally licensed motorcycle roadracer with AMA Superbike series. (Formula Xtreme #89, Supersport/Superstock #189, if you ever see me on Speed :D )

I am about to take the plunge and buy at least 1 1g awd to be used to drive around and autoX, and maybe 1 more to do club racing.

Since I am starting fresh, I would like to hear some feed back on what would a good set up be with these cars (suspension/chasis wise) so I can plan some upgrades.

The first ever cool car I owned was a 93 eclipse. I destroyed it then I went on to race motorcycles. Now after racing at the highest level of motorcycle racing (I still do) I look forward to getting back to the car I love and start some 4 wheel racing too (probably GT4's fault LOL) I watched the grand am cup at VIR and the rolex 24 hours at daytona when I was down there racing, pretty cool stuff.

any other member goes to Pocono or Summit Point? I would like to come check you and your cars out. I teach racing schools at motorcycle trackdays a lot at pocono, summit and VIR, and I see cars a lot while we are there, would be cool meet someone from here :)

Dafan,

I've heard a lot about cycle guys crossing over to auto racing, and it seems they do exceptionally well. I think it's most likely the racer's mind set. I wish you the best.

If I were you, first I would talk with Greg Collier. He, I think, without a doubt, has the most successfull road Racing DSM at the moment. I would also try to get hold of Scot Grey. I think he's is probably the best around with state of the art DSM tuning and such. You'll probably want to talk with John Mueller for some suspension ideas, if you can get a hold of him, and of course speak with some of the guys at Road Race Engineering.

...and don't forget, there are also a number of members of this board that have quite extensive knowledge in different aspects of setups. Just check the forums.

I wish you well with your upcoming new endeavors.

cool, the man himself :D

what classes do you compete in? how competitive is the car?

I was over at a friends today and got him kind of interested in doing a 12 hour or something of that sort at summit point or VIR... I am getting rev'ed up about this

A 12 hour enduro is kind of a tough start. I'd assume you'd have to be licensed to run with the club. VIR would be awesome track for any kind of race, that facility is A number one in my book.
I run Super Unlimited with NASA. It's all the bad boys with the baddest toys from twin turbo 800 hp Porsche's, 1000 hp carbon fiber Viper's, Z06 Vette's, Ferrari's, you name it. My car has been pretty competitive and continues to blow everybody away, including me. I just finished up a race this weekend at Willow Springs International Raceway and I'm beat. It was 105 degrees on the track and about 115 in the car, you'll see my write up next week. I just put up a video from my last race for your perusal.

Sleep..................

Greg

cool! I gotta check out your reports and such more, I will be sure to follow your season.

I would have to get licensed but I wrote SCCA and see what I gotta do

12 hour would be cool though. one of my competitors co-drove a porche in the rolex 24 down at daytona and I think he had a really really nice time.

I love VIR, it is my favorite track, I probably have turned over 1000 laps on it, motorcycle though. 5 years at daytona and counting now too :) would be nice to get around on 4 wheels :D

I am going through racing withdrawl because my truck/transporter took a dump and I couldn't make it to Pikes Peak this weekend. Spent the afternoon watching people I usually grid up with racing on TV is not fun  :( I drank lots hahaha

good luck this season, I will probably have lots questions for you in a little while when the cars are coming together.

if you ever wanna check out what crazies we do on 2 wheels, check out my site: www.dafanz.com
