I just got done installing a new motor in my 92 awd laser when i start it it idle very rough and high around 3500 rpms dropping up and down from 700 to 3300. if you rev the car car it will pop a little and die out.

could this be a vacumm leak or mixed up vac lines. Its not the isc motor or t body related. anyone have a clue

does this car have cruise control? if it does make sure the throttle cables aren't binding up anywhere. Check them very carefully. Under the hood pull the throttle cable by the throttle body and rev it, notice how the rpms react. If they seem "normal" check your mas air flow sensor, make sure it is plugged in(trust me this happened to me once) pull the plug and plug it back in. If you have a friend with a dsm ask him if you can swap out sensors o see how the car reacts. make sure the sensor is from a 1G if your car is a 1G, and the same for 2G to 2G. Check your intercooler piping from the turbo to the throttle body. Follow it very carefully tugging/twisting on all the pipes/hoses to make sure none are loose.

If the above checks out, check your sparkplugs and wires, make sure they are in good condition. pull out the plugs and make sure they are not bridged. Move on to you coilpacks, pop out each wire one by one and inspect the plugs where the connect into the coilpacks, and take a look as best as you can at the spark plug end too. Make sure the wires and plugs are new if possible. Make sure you firing order is right also.

Make sure the plugs to the injectors are plugged in properly. It is possible that your fuel pump may have gone bad, check that if possible.

Let us know whats going on,

same problem, does it only do it when its warm? mine is fine for 10 minutes, then gets worse and just stalls. do you really think it could be f. pump?
b t w, are 1g and 2g f. pumps the same?

im having the same problems and i have a new motor too, plus my car bogs down superlow around 3k, i think i didnt plumb the boost controller lines correctly- (hopefully)

having the same prob. just did my motor swap in my 1st gen and when i started it it idaled high around 3000. the motor is an 4g63 n/t ...could it be the vacuum lines any tips will help alot thanks.

o yea when i pulled the motor out the main cable got stuck on the intake manifold and pulled it out of its sleave...so the throttle cable is completly off and it still ideals at 3k.i think its all vaccum issues any other ideas????

o yea my motor swap is from a turbo motor to a n/t motor will this affect it in any way..changed everything from the turbo motor to the n/t motor and when it started it up it ideled at 3k ....thanks ..
