Ok, this is a pretty stupid question, on a pretty stupid topic.

What size fuel tank does a '98 gsx have?

While having a conversation with my freind about how shitty of gas milage Awd cars can get, he says ge gets around 24-26 mpg. Im like bullshiit, i get like 18-19 and ask him how he gets such good gas milage. He says take my highway milage per tank, about 300, and divide it by 12, how big my gas tank is. I laugh and proceed to tell him his gas tank is 16 gallons. Well he laughs back and swears his tank is 12 gallons. He says it 12 because when his fuel light comes on and he fills up its aruond 11 gallons to fill up. But get this, his fuel guage doesnt work. So i say to him, based on you car with no gas gauge, your tank is empty at around 300 miles, or when you gas light comes on. I tell him ive driven 80 miles on my fuel light before and that his fuel sensors are probably messed up.

Anyways im just trying to clear this up for once and seeing what you guys think.

It's like 15 gallons, look in the manual that came with the car for the exact value.

However, fuel tank size is irrelevant for calculating mileage.

When you fill your tank, you divide the mileage by the amount of fuel you used TO GET THAT MILEAGE.

25 mpg for an AWD on the highway is nothing abnormal.

1gs, 2Gs, all versions of both generations list 16-gallon fuel tanks. 2G AWDs are plastic. I've never heard of anyone getting 16, or even 15 into one. I also load up at about 10 or 11 gallons, and usually get around 22 mpg.

One dull day, I'm loading up a gas can and finding out just how much gas you _can_ get into a DSM after you run it bone dry.
