I just bought my second DSM and it was bought at an auction so I do not know when the timing belt was last done, I blew up my last one and do not want to hunt another one down. I pulled the cover and the belt looked new even though the rubber seemed softer than my old cars t-belt witch was new, is there any way to tell if I need to replace???????

I know of nothing though you might be able to record all of the info on the belt and call the maker to see when it could have been sold. You will just have to play detective, figure out what the possibilities are and go from there. If the belt is supposed to be changed at 50k, you could split the difference and say 25k is a safe number; however; a conservative safe number woud be 12k. So start saving your money, buying parts and when 12k rolls around you have all the parts and you do the job. Sure you may have wasted some of the belt life but considering the alternative of destroying the engine do the belt.

What happened to the other car?

Cheers,
GTM

I had a T belt break on a 3kgt I bought back in 98 that had "supposably" been changed on time, cost me a small fortune to redo all the valves and have the head fixed. Definately worth it to just change it if you are unsure man. Only cost about 150 if you do it yourself.
