Ok so I recently put on a set of 4 Pirelli P7000's on my GSX. Previously I had some crappy tires on, and they had no thread. So my problem is this...my car had better handiling with the crappy tires then it does know with so called "high performance tires". My car will spin all four tires with the new tires and it wouldn't do it with the old. The other night my car started to slide for no reason on the highway. I was going around a turn and it started to drift then thank god I regained controll. Why are my new tires worse than my old ones when they are brand new and so called "high performance"... I know there are better tires out there but i wanted ones that were good in the snow as well and I herd the pirelli's were good for both....but now they are starting to scare me.

Yegads, looks like a trip to warmer climate for you. These are SUMMER tires and the last I looked winter has just begun.

Cheers,

Ultra High Performance All Season
Performance tires which are capable of going through the snow.

1.) Sport 5000
2.) Michelin Pilot Sport A/S
3.) BFG G-Force KDWS
4.) P7000 Super Sport

If you look at the suspension forum...the p7000's are listed as ultra high performance all season and are capable of going through the snow. This is coming from the vendor of tire rack.

I just did an Internet search and here it says nothing about "Super Sport" nor did your previous post.

The above ad indicates they are "summer" tires so you need to find out what you got and until then drive with care.

Well thanks.. I didn't realize there were two types of p7000's. That really sucks. I guess I am going to have to buy some winter tires and save those for the summer.

I've been using pirelli p7000 ss for a long time on my car, for a daily driver i would'nt pick anything else. For me they have awesome traction wet or dry. In the snow they also work very well if you drive with common sense and not like a soccer mom in a suv with 4 WHEEL DRIVE. Haha

I don't know your situation or how you came to buy / specify a tire. If they were a normal stock item in the store they should have advised you of the difference between the P7000 and the P7000SS. Don't know if you have a good gripe with the store or they just wanted to take your money without advising you there was a difference. How many times are you going to see the speed rating vs how many corners in zero degree weather. My guess you will NEVER see those sustained speeds... 130?-140? for more than a couple min.

Do your homework before you drop a $1000 on something which isn't going to work for you and your driving conditions.

Thanks. I know I should have payed attention but when I was talking to the guy we were talking about how they were good in the snow and he said they were excellent. He then went on to say how they were on the winning car of the 1998 Monte Carlo or something. I told him they were going to be my all season tires and he said good choice. I guess I got screwed over. Im going to try and go back and swap them out. It didn't cost me $1000 though it was only like $500 for all 4. Maybe they just put the wrong tires on because it seems as though the regular p7000 is around $1000 and the p7000ss goes for like $550 at most tire websites. I don't know what im going to do. Should I keep these tires for the summer and just buy the all seasons? Or just trade them in for the all seasons?

If you have a witness who knew what was said and / or receipt which isn't what you wanted then you may be able to get some satisfaction. I don't know how to advise other than do what's safe for you. Nothing will prevent skids on "black ice" unless it has studs or chains.

Certainly if you are buying for a "look" that's your business, if you decide to keep them then I'd buy an el cheapo which if you scuff up the sidewall you don't give a hoot but they must keep you from crashing and burning in the snow and ice.

I am going to try and get this problem fixed today. Personally I don't care about looks but I bought the tire because they were supposed to be high performance...thats my main concern...as well as safety. Unfortunately it snowed today so I have no other choice than to do something about my situation.

I have P7000SS's on my turbo Audi and they work great all year round. Of course I drive like an elderly blind person from Florida in the wintertime........
