Found that off white, non translucent glob on the bottom of my oil cap. So what's leaking?? I checked the dip stick there wasnt anything on the top of that & this is the first occurance of the blob.

That's what I thought, but I didnt know it would look so milky...anyway, I just checked it again and there's a small puddle of coolant on the fan underneath the coolant tube thats connected to the radiator cap. Happy New Year to meee!!!

That appears to be something called emulsion. It's basically where condensation builds up and deposits on something stationary such as the oil cap. We've found tons of it on the oil caps and other cooler engine surfaces of Jeep Libertys, Grand Cherokees, and other Chrysler products. This WILL NOT harm engine oil, the engine, or any other components.

If it's just a smear then in all probability it's just condensation which has emulsified with oil and the air or oil doesn't wash it away. However, it can be a warning of things to come. If you are loosing coolant or it keeps showing up on a regular basis you might want to retorque the head gasket and look for other causes. In advanced stages the dipstick will look like whipped chocolate milk and the engine if hot will be quite noisy and smoking.

GTM

In advanced stages of what...?? head gasket problems??? I just had my head gasket done a month ago. But thanks a lot this was helpful

Woops, yes head gasket problems. If you had the problem before it could be residual scum which was down in the block which they couldn't wash it all off. Plus with all the cold weather there is little chance it will get a chance to evaporate from a hot engine. Do remember that for every gallon of gas your burn the by-product is 97% water. Every engine has blow-by so the water will condense out and not get a chance to be purged through the normal system processes.

Cheers,
GTM

If it's just developing on the cap then you should be fine as I stated above. By all means though keep an eye on the material on the dipstick and the next oil change or two you may want to use a very clean catch pan to inspect the fluid coming out of it. If that's all you got off the cap then you're fine, it's just emulsion.
