Ok its like the title says I try to start the car and it tries but wont turn over.... I cant hear the fuel pump is there anyway to check to see if I am getting fuel or not... also I pull each plug wire out one at a time and try and start the car and there is no spark. I changed the spark plugs (they needed it) changed the coil pack. What do you guys suggest? Should I buy another CAS and replace it too?

i bought the car like this... sorry... i have an extra CAS, i am going to try this tomorrow hopefully it works but any other suggestions? Also I called and asked AutoZone how much for a new one and they said $ 434.00? Is this right?

I thought your last post this was in the shop? What for? What did they do?

How long has it been setting up? Bad water contaminated gas? BTW you'll smell gas or even see gas puddled on top of the cylinder if you pull a plug.

Is it NOT spinning over readily with the starter? .
but wont turn over
You say it "tries" how is it trying if no spark - No spark = No fire? Is it firing now & then? Or is trying just to spin - this is the Internet dude - you've got to get specific!~ You've got to give us the big picture...

If you must mess with the CAS mark where the old one is oriented & put the new one oriented the same - you set Timing by turning the CAS - it's rather hard to set Timing on a car that won't run w/no spark...

& don't go buying any $500 CAS quite yet!~!

my friends car does the same thing and cant figure out why, we put my ecu on his, and still no spark. we also changed the coilpack. it just did this out of nowhere.

ok here is the deal to clear up confusion.... i own 2 dsm's now.. my 91 (n\t) is at the shop having headwork done. my 90 (TSi AWD) is with me and I am trying to get it to crank... it has been sitting approxiamately 2 months... when i try and crank it it just continually tries with no interruption... i do not smeel gas and i do not here the fuel pump... i pulled each plug wire out one at a time and tried to crank the car and there doesnt seem to be any spark going to the wires (i dont have a spark tester, anyone have a better way of checking spark?) i replace the coil pack to se if that was it and nothing... i also replaced the spark plugs (only because they needed it) that also didnt solve the problem... the extra CAS doesnt work because i believe it the wrong part it might be for 91-94 car because it actually has a four prong male connector and the one on my car has four wires coming direct;ly out of the housing (at least it looks that way) i hope this clears any confusion and please help

I notice that you keep stating that you "dont hear" the fuel pump. You can answer whether that is working quickly by just turning the ignition over a couple times with one of the plugs out. If fuel shoots up in your (or your helper's ;) )face then its probably all good.

MY NOTES IN CAPS...

THANX...

it has been sitting approxiamately 2 months...

GAS SHOULD BE OK - I THROW A CAN OF GAS DRY IN THERE OR SOME RUBBINGG ALCOHOL IF I WERE WORRIED ABOUT WATER...

when i try and crank it it just continually tries with no interruption...

GOT IT - SPINS GOOD ON STARTER

i do not smeel gas and i do not here the fuel pump...

YOU SHOULD HEAR PUMP WITH EAR TO GAS FILL - CHECK FUEL PUMP FUSES, RELAYS, ETC - THERE IS A FUEL PUMP TEST CONNECTOR UNDER HOOD.

i pulled each plug wire out one at a time and tried to crank the car and there doesnt seem to be any spark going to the wires (i dont have a spark tester, anyone have a better way of checking spark?)

BEST WAY I KNOW IS TO PUT A PLUG IN REMOVED WIRE & GROUND PLUG - LOOK FOR BLUE SPARK

i replace the coil pack to se if that was it and nothing... i also replaced the spark plugs (only because they needed it) that also didnt solve the problem... the extra CAS doesnt work because i believe it the wrong part it might be for 91-94 car because it actually has a four prong male connector and the one on my car has four wires coming direct;ly out of the housing

90'S HAVE SOME BASTARD SHIT ON THEM - PITA!

(at least it looks that way) i hope this clears any confusion and please help

RUN THRU THE ABOVE & GET BACK WITH US....

thx will do when i get home.... just a quick Q? is there any where besides ramcharger and dmsparts to find the MAFT?

ok here is the deal... i cant find the underhood testor nor the relays.... i pulled the back seat out and there is no plate that i can remove to gain access to the fuel pump... in a 90 is it in a different place? Chilton says remove seat and there will be a plate... everything else checks out though

ok i found the fuel pump but i cant seem to get it off with out bending the fuel line any suggestions?

here is the latest update in my quest to get the car running. I rewired fuel pump and now it works however I still get no spark. I replaced the plugs and coil pack. But when i replaced the coil pack i noticed there are two plugs coming from the one wire loom. One plugs into the coil pack and the other plugs in below it (not sure what into?) The second plug had been severed and resoldered with the exception of one wire. I spliced the two back together but still nothing. Would this affect anything? Also what else should I check for?
