building boost,no acceleration

Im having a problem. When I am normally driving, my turbo will start to build boost but the car will not accelerate. I can hear the turbo spool but the car goes no wear. If I let off the gas then get back into it it is normally OK. At first I thought it might be a leak around one of the intercooler pipes but it doesnt always do it. It only seems to do it during normal driving, if I accelerate quicker than normal it works fine. Any help would be great, its driving me crazy. Only thing I can think is maybe a vacuum leak.

Forgot to add that when the turbo is building boost, the rpms are not going up. Thanks again for anything.

mine used to do the EXACT same thing... after a turbo upgrade it was fixed.. but it still does it a LITTLE.. the only guess i have is maby the wastegate getting partailly stuck open and when you blip the throttle it closes properly, but that is 100% guess.

I'm guessing too, the waste gate could be your problem. Have you done anything to check it? Next would be to check the timing and then knock sensor.

If your knock sensor thinks it's pinging too much it will retard the timing which will give these symptoms.

His wastegate? I doubt it. Why would it be stuck open or closed? Maybe if he had a lot of cracks around it but I doubt it. I was thinking he has a boost leak. I would throw a pressure tester on it and check it out. That is what it sounds like to me.

He said he checked at least some parts of the intake. If he jumps on it, an intake leak is not going to change and suddenly get better. Whereas a waste gate or actuator motor sticking could cause this. The waste gate is right there to check in 10 min.

i was having the same problems with my stock turbo... then i threw a big 16g on and no problems =P dunno what was broke but it works now
