major boost leak?

driving down the highway doing a cool 60-65. Going to pass and drop it down to 3rd. I pass like normal. Need to do it again... press the gas... spooooooooolllll...ssssssssssssssss.
Sounds like a comercial jet. Boost gauge is saying im boosting, but the car is not accelerating. My girl behind me says there is a trail of black smoke when im boosting. even a firey backfire. I check all the connections, still all tight. BOV is fine. Boosts and accelerates to about 10 psi then i hear is leaking... to 19. What could have happened?
 
do a pressure check and spray things with soapy water to see where your leaks are, it sounds like you have a pretty major one so it shouldn't be that hard to find

its maintaining desired boost, but just losing air? my question is could it have to do with the engine and not the piping

It is most definatly a boost leak and your probably overreving your turbo to maintain boost
 
rigged a boost tester. Tried it with a bike pump with no avail. I couldnt hear a thing. took off/ tightned all my intercooler piping--- and the BOV. The spring still felt stiff. as you might have read my other threads... i have been having a severe boost spiking problem. the turbo is now subject to a little shaft play..where else could the problem be? (sounds like it is coming from the passenger side of the car).
 
Check for leaks First.

if there is no leaks , is your SAFC2 tuned correctly? In my car when i didnt know how to tune my safc i would give it WOT and have full boost, but it felt like no power was actually getting there, it actually felt like it was slowing down. Yet i was getting full boost but no power because i was sooooo rich.
 
just ordered another greddy type s, i have a feeling that is my problem. boost spiking at 30+ psi probably annihilated the poor thing
 
swiched it over... not the BOV, I cant find the leak.... it is coming from the passenger side. Checked the upper intercooler pipe and home depot rigged elbow... fine. Is there any way that an exessive amount of PSI could have blown the side mount intercooler?
