Firestone left my oil cap wedged under the hood

Took the car in for a quick oil change and tire balance on Friday night and then drove home. Went out to go somewhere on Saturday and noticed my hood was raised about and inch on the left side. Popped the hood and come to find out that the damn mechanic left the cap wedged under the edge of the hood and oil was all over the engine. Called the guy up and he said he would pay to have the motor professionaly steam cleaned. Is that the way to go? A steam cleaning? How much damage can the oil do?

Oil is BAD for all those fifty or so hoses we have - You may want to inflict some punitive pain & have Him or Mitsu change EVERY freaking hose at his expense - Check with an Auto Detailer (more $$) - they may go with dry cleaning solvent on the engine cleaning vice steam cleaning, far better for the electrical components...

What about the freaking motor?
How low was the oil?
THAT's the question here...

I only drove it a few miles with the cap off so I didn't lose much oil, I checked the level.

I wouldn't worry about the oil all over the engine I would worry how much came out from there. You might have some major engine/turbo problems. And yeah get it cleaned it will look like shit later on

i did that once... i drove maybe 10 miles before noticing... i play loud music, thats why.
anyways i STILL have the oil all over, hasnt done anything to the engine but keep it from rusting more i'll clean it when the snow clears.
anyways, its been about 7 months, and no damage to anything, so no worries
just make sure you milk the bastard for all he's worth before he does it to someone else.

i work at jiffy lube and we have some morons that work there and have caused some damage to customers cars, and i could immagine all those othertypes of places that have morons too!!!!! do you work yourself. its the only way you know its done right!

I don't trust none of my small "local shops" for anything more than a belt or a dam tire rotation. Its sad really.



Just let em get it cleaned, cant hurt anything.
