To add to the worst day I've had in a long time comes the story of the broken DSM...

::sigh::

Ok so I go out this morning and warm the car up (its winter here) and go back inside and get ready for school this morning. I was running a bit late... (that's why I had to walk a mile to class but that's another story) so I hurried and got ready. On my way to school I decided what better use of my car then to get me to school on time? So I pressed the gas to the floor in second... started to boost then it happened... A very horrific kick back sound from the exhaust.... Now keep in mind I didn't slow down I just never gained "full" boost... Now I don't know what full is because my boost gauge isn't installed yet but the factory meter didn't go up all the way... and my car seemed to jerk as the sound I heard sounded like misfire from the motor it was almost like my turbo was coughing for air :(. Very sad to hear... I have absolutely no idea what is wrong im thinking it must have something to do with a leak or something but I'm pretty much a dumbass compared to yall so I figured ied get your two cents... mitsu wants $90.00 f'n dollars to tell me what's wrong.... Any help you can provide I appreciate.... :) cheers

Things to keep in mind:
- 95 eclipse turbo FWD
- oil was overdue by 100 miles when this happened, replaced same problem
- exhuast leak from what I can tell is not a factor.... We sealed one small hole, no diffrence....
- No major mods, intake, bov exhuast.

Forgot to mention:

This only happens when the gas is to the floor... i can have the gas halfway down and get high in the rpms with no problem... Does this in ALL gears...

Seems like it happens at the end or right after spooling....

could u be hitting fuel cut fomr boost being to high? does it feal like ur hitting a brick wall? and dont mess with boost unless u have a boost guage

boost is stock and no...

I dont think thats it because it sounds like the turbo is coughing if you will but then it stops when i get REAL high in the RPMS and starts back up again in the next gear

Bump....

Also does anyone know if auto zone or anywhere does free diagnosis ? :(

I had that in my gsx, come to find out it was either the plugs or wires!( i replaced both) Replace both with ngk, and that should be it. :thumb:

I looked in your profile and it said blitz super sound bov. You are venting which caused your plugs to fowl, causeing misfire(this is the noises you are hearing when on the throtle) My missfire got so bad i started to duck, as it sounded like i was being shot at with a riffle. OMG

you didnt circlulate your BOV either? I am in the process of replacing my wires and plugs right now at the suggestion of another friend... worht a shot...

Any other ideas are welcome... ill let you guys know if this works... i have extra plugs... ill have to pick up a wire kit at napa tommorw when they open....

Check for a boost leak. I had the same problem and thought I was hitting fuel cut. My car stuttered backfired and all sort of other wierd sh*t. Couldn't even get on the highway because anytime it would start boosting it would just stop but I could slowly bring rpms up with about 1/4 throttle but if I depressed futher it just was like fuel cut. Turns out I blew my intercooler piping apart so it was like a leaf blower under the hood. Your prob sounds exactly like mine I really think you have a boost leak. Check for that if you cant see anything try this: http://www.vfaq.com/mods/ICtester.html It's a pretty cool idea. Never tried it though. Some people have same exact problem from plugs and wires though so try that too.
