I recently had to remove the needles from my gauges on my car to install new gauge faces from black cat customs, when i reinstalled the needles the gauges were way out of calibration, so if anybody out there with a 2g gst stick can tell me what speed your car is at when the tach is at 2k and again at 3k in 5TH gear i would really appreciate it.....thanx!!!

thanks bro' but the non turbo eclipse has a completely different engine\tranny than the turbo model so i'm not sure if it's the same or not speed wise - prob not...

The problem is that your speedo will still be off unless both cars have tires with the EXACT same diameter.

yeah...i know but at least it would get me ballpark.....menace2strt if you could check your speedo for me it's much appreciated!!! thanx bro'!

Why not just time how long it takes you to go one mile at exactly 60 MPH?

1 mile at 60 MPH takes exactly 60 seconds.

That should get your speedo right on, and if you think your tach is off, just check where the needle is when idling hot, and compare that to where it used to be (or compare to your logger).

but then i'd have to run down the road and watch a clock while trying to drive and keep track of the mile marker at the same time all on bad roads (ohio snow) and then if its wrong i'll have to run home tear the cluster apart move the needle and hope i did'nt just return it to the same position i just removed it from and try it all again.....really just waay too much hastle that way....just easier to find someone who is prob driving one of these cars several times a day and have them look down at their speed and remember what tach setting they were at at say 65 on their way home from work/school.....

Well. I know that in 2nd gear, every 10mph is roughly 1k on the tach.. So at 20mph it's 2k, 30mph it's 3k... But you asked for 5th gear... (reason to go drive my car at 5:17 in the morning!) I'll edit in a second.

On 205 / 55 R16 tires.

50mph, 2100
60mph, 2600
70mph, 3050-3100ish

Looks like it goes in 500rpm increments per 10mph in 5th gear. Hope it helps ya.

 thanx bro' really!!.....hope i didnt disrupt any sleep or anything..btw hows the weather down there?...thinkin of maybe comin down in the spring, my buddy should be back from the military then and i know for shure he's gonna want to unwind some so last time i emailed him bout a week ago we were kinda plannin some sort of road trip....

nah. no sleep disruption. just got off work and came home and read tuners.

It's cold... Well, not really cold, but too cold for myrtle beach.. It rains and did i mention is was cold.. But it doesn't snow.. ever :(

If ya come down in spring, pm me. Lot's of fun to get into down here in the spring / summer. (it isn't cold either.)

You look like your are close with those numbers.

Just wrote this for someone else a few days ago.

Most speedos I've ever worked on are calibrated at 60mph for 2250 rpm. It just so happens that's the speed of a 1/4" drill motor. With the cluster out of the car you can cut the head off a nail which has a 4 sided tapered point and press it gently up against the back of the meter. The drill must give the same speed in forward as reverse for you will need reverse to turn in the right direction. With the motor running at top speed set the needle on the shaft at the 60 mph and give it a bit of a push.

With the cable attached you can remove from the tranny and use the chuck to just grab the cable but you will have to have a buddy either place the needle or hold the drill.

Cheers,
GTM

good idea, thanx and all, but not on a 2g since they're are no cables on the 2g cluster it's all fly by wire.....good idea for the 1g though!!!

Oh fooey, digital!! Still there must be a way to calibrate this on the bench for most speedo shops don't have much in the way of parking or provisions for running on a dyno. It's got to be something very basic since gear ratios, hub sensors, and tires vary so widely. It also would suggest the calibration is done in the speedo head by tweaking a xtal but you then must have some sort of a common pulse. Best I can do for now.

Thanks for calling that to my attention. Just 1 more thing I have to remember to investigate some day.

Cheers,
GTM
