So I was on my way home last night....

I was speeding up on the highway...80mph in 4th...Than I was switching into 5th and ......... The F*&%ing thing came out in my hand!!!

Not the shift knob!! the whole shifter!!! at 80MPH!!!!

So I pulled over....ripped my shift boot off and saw that the weld at the pivot point on the pressure plate on the shifter BROKE!!!!

So I wiggled it around and found 2nd gear.....and drove home on the highway at 30 mph @ 3000 rpms

So......I called mitsubishi and ordered the new part....

But what the hell!! That is supposed to be one of the strongest parts in the car since it takes alot of abuse!

I have the symborski bushings on the shifter plate so i guess the stock rubber gasgets were taking the shocks of the shifting and now it doesn't....That's my reasoning....what do you guys think?

Hmph. That's not right.

You didn't have a spare floating around in the garage? What kind of DSMer are you?

Great time to get a B&M replacement, though...

LOL, this is a little OT, but....

I was watching this guy pulling a trailer go around a curve right in front of me. I noticed something kinda odd out of the corner of my eye, and looked over to notice the tire on the trailer on the outside curve pop off and just keep going straight into the ditch! He kept going around the curve w/o an entire wheel on the one side of the trailer. THAT was weird.

I treat my DSM like a bitchy high-maintenence girlfriend: If i give it a ton of attention and buy it lots of nice things, then just MAYBE it will nice to me and give me what i want... :D

Sounds like your DSM wanted a new shifter.....;)
