lifters noise

starting to get one lifter making noise when it wants at revs, idle anytime. running 5w-40 synthetic oil Fram performance filter engine is a 1G engine. Head recond" two months ago, lifters were compressed before reinstall do these lifters fail just like that.

I was just wondering what you meant by 'lifters were compressed'.

Yeah, DSM lifters start to tick after a while, it just happens. It doesn't _do_ anything per-se, but it can cause false knock-sensor readings, and slow your car down (you're not doing any damage or anything though).

To fix it cheaply:
Buy a can of restore, add to every oil change. It will stop most of the ticking for at least a month or so anyway.

To fix permanently:
There are so-called "Third generation lifters" that can be found for sale at reasonable prices. Search around the forums, and you'll find links to places that sell them. They are of a revised design, and supposedly fix the problem the first ones had.

Thanks Jesse but I was wondering what was compressed because if I remember right my lifters slide in and out by hand.

once you pull your cams out an leave your lifters sitting for a while they can cause the valves to touch the pistons on start up so you compress the oil out of them before installation.
