still boosting 20 plus psi with MBC! help!

before i got the mbc i was spiking around 20 plus psi and so i wanted to get it down to 15 or 16. I got the mbc (generic one off ebay, seller had good responses) and installed it correctly (bottom taping the bov vaccum tube and side to wastegate actuator) and i continued to boost more than 20 psi no matter how much i unscrewed it. I took the spring out and now it boosts around at full boost 12 psi. What does this mean and how come i have no adjustability? any help is appreciated, thanks!

either the spring is two stiff, or the spring got stuck, i had that happen on my home made ball and spring boost controller, if you screwed it all the way out and it was still boosting 20, it sounds like your spring was/is no good, go to the hardware store and try to find another one.

i've heard of people cutting their springs, would that help? and how much should i cut?

It sounds like your wastegate has failed. It is not your MBC.

Pressurize the Wastegate using an air compressor w/ about 15PSI of air. MAKE SURE NOT TO USE ANY MORE PRESSURE ELSE YOU WILL DAMAGE IT. The wastegate arm SHOULD operate. If it does not, get a new one.

i had a cel and i checked and it was wastegate actuator malfuntion which i suppose would explain the problem, BUT, i cut a little bit of the spring off and now the mbc works and i'm boostin 14-16 psi. Which kind of contradicts the wastegate being broken... or does it?

I had the same problem with an ebay MBC. I cut one link off the spring at a time until it worked fine.

hmm i always thought the bottopm was for wastegate actuator and side was for the bov side? but i got a turbo xs mbc dont know how different they are (unless if mines wrong?)

edit: they have a cel code for a malfunctioning wastegate actuator?

it was 10 bucks and came to 16 with shipping. It was just a standard ball and spring type and the seller had good feedback on the product.

i guess so, i don't remember what the number was but i checked it with my datalogger and thats what it said
