I swapped the heads out today on the Talon and we couldn't get it to start up. With the other motor in there with the bad head, it started right up. I think that it might have jumped timing, not bad enough to bend anything, but bad enough to not to let the car start. We tried to line the car up, but I still dont' believe that it is right. How do you time these cars?

We have the crank dead center with the first and forth piston up on the compression stroke and both of the cam pins are pointing straight up when we have it like that. Now that is how the Hanes manual says to time this motor, but I know that it can be wrong sometime. Does this sound right?

Any help will be appreciated, and if you want to e-mail me with any help it's [email protected]

does it turn over but just wont start completely? Or is the starter not even turning? Need more details please

you can adjust your timing using your cam angle sensor.

Yes, it does turn over but it won't start. The starter is fine and we have tried every degree on the cam angle sensor and it still doesn't want to start.

Just double check and make sure all the timing marks line up. Read the VFAQ! It is way better than the Haynes manual. If all the timing checks out ok then look around for a sensor you may have forgot to plug back in and check all your boost and vac hoses. I remember when I did the head swap the first time on my car it wouldnt start.....I forgot to plug the sensor back in on the side of the intake manifold....so jus look around for that kind of stuff first.

Oh, I meant to ask. If the balance shafts are not timed up with the rest of the motor will that keep it from starting? I am not quite sure that we have them timed up right.

That's what I thought, thanx for the help. Guess that I need to do some more looking.
