Edmonton,
hey i am having a idle surge problem which i will eventually fix but i also have a problem with my BISS. i adjust it so my rpm's sitjust right but then eventually over time the screw just makes its way back up. i dont know if this is because i lost that rubber piece that goes on the BISS. but anyway what can i do so the stupid thing doesnt keep raising my idle?

so just set it to where it needs to be then just put some rtv sealant in there? that wont cause any problems in the future?

nope...just put enough rtv that it wouldnt be able to back out...you can always scrape it out later if need be....

Keaka, yeah it will bro, for the biss to function right, it must seal, the oring is larger than the screw creating the seal but in doing that, also rubs the wall of the hole and keeps it in place. Once it has a fresh one on there, it will not back out, if it would, they would be RTV'd from the factory.

they dont use RTV from factory but they do put a big piece of rubber into the screw hole that holds it in place....both of my lasers had this piece, and have had screws back out with a new o-ring in there...

I can see how the o-ring should have a little grip on the screw, but that doesnt mean it still cant back itself out...

now, shaft seal o-rings a whoooole different story...THAT is a PITA.

No it doesn't! Yes it does! No it doesn't! Actually it will. If you replace the BISS o-ring, it will have a tighter fit and will prevent the adjustment screw from backing out. The reason for the cap over the biss is to aid in possible vacuum leak and to keep the screw from falling out incase it does back out. Replace the o-ring and you will be fine. I would use silicone after idle is correctly (ground timing plug etc) set over the plug hole to seal everything. I installed a new o-ring awhile back and it leaked a bit so after silicone though, it was fine. And yes, I even used a Mitsubishi o-ring straight from the dealership.

k so when you say o-ring, is that just that a piece that goes around the screw, or is that just the rubber piece, and if i go to the dealer what should i tell them i need exactly?

"RTV in the hole thats the stupidest thing i have ever heard!"

You need a #5 O-ring (3/8x1/4x1/16, available at most hardware stores), now available as Mitsu part # MD608806. This goes right under the head of the screw in that valley that looks as if an O-ring should go there.).

Hope this helps.

so if i put a new o-ring in, will it matter if i have that rubber cap? or will the dealer have the rubber cap too? i hope i can fix this, then check my stupid isc to fix my idle problem.

If you give the top of the BISS and the threads around it a blip of WD-40, then blorp some silicone onto the top of it, it'll hold fine, seal for leaks, stop backout, and still peel right out when you need to.

I was totally against the RTV until Defiant said its ok, this guy knows his SHIAT Do as you will....

Anyway, I second the RTV idea  You may want to buy a new o-ring anyway, they're not that expensive and what could it hurt ;)

Wow, I love the whole bandwagon that goes on on this board...Always noticed it. One person says something and its labeled a "stupid idea". Then one credible person jumps in and agrees with the stupid idea. Suddenly everyone whos posts after the credible person also happens to agree with the dumb idea....

:thumb: Good job guys.

you can buy the whole stupid little kit form the dealer for like 6 bucks, worth it to me...no probs since and its STOCK..........

i was wondering in the kit from the dealer does that include the screw. i am looking for the BISS screw and the O-ring where can i get that from? i checked the dealer for just the screw and they dont sell it

the dealership does have them, although you might have to have them order it...

the base idle set screw is MD614948 and it's an, "Adjusting Screw, Throttle Body".

no probs since and its STOCK..........

you implied that since it was stock from the dealer, that its automatically qualified as a good part.

I was pointing out that 1st gen exhaust manis and t-25s are also straight from mitsu but they both suck ass.

i never implied that it was better, but it was what was meant to go in there, these are not brand new cars, and your talking about plastic, if a 6 dollar part is all i need to make my car idle right thats what i will do, thats what I meant about it being stock, i hapeb to think as a whole these cars are really low quality, but i like to drive mine and it looks cool..so thats all that matters
