Screech from tranny??????

I'm currently looking at a 1991 AWD. The guy that is selling it says that there is only one problem with the car and that is there is an intolerable screeching sound coming from the tranny after it warms up. Apparently, this happens very quickly and he cant even move it out of his development w/o it happening. My guess is a bad throw out bearing but I'm just looking for anybody that has seen this before and knows for certain. Thanks for the help.

Have him drain the oil and show it to you.

He told me that as soon as it happened, he drained the tranny fluid and found a few metal shavings. He replaced it with Royal Purple, but the problem continued. He hasnt drove it barely at all since. Just to see if the problem still occured. It didnt take long; less than a mile. I'm hoping the throw out went bad. What you think?

I'd also inspect the transfer-case. I've heard that when those are about to go, they will make a loud high-pitched sound.

Trow out bearing would not put metal in the tranny fluid. could be a bad bearing in the tranny.
