Today at a stop light my gas light was on while the clutch was in. after i took it out and put it in first the gas light disapeared. My car has some bad idle surge that i have not fixed yet. Also my car has died once while sitting with the clutch in at a stop light due to very low idling from the idle surge. Any help or comments is appreciated.

The "get gas now" light is not very precise. Mine may or may not go on when the needle shows near the bottom. It's possible that the light is correct... but your gauge is off a bit. The next time that the light goes on, get a full tank of gas and note just how many gallons is needed for the full fill. Then compare that to the capacity of your tank. Doing this will tell you which gizmo is at fault.
Of course there are other thingies that could be defective, like the fuel gauge sender unit. After all - the car is over a dozen years old.
Let me know what you come up with!!!!

No, I don't know what the tank capacity is!!!

We have a gas light?? 92 Eclipse GSX would have a dash gas light too? Wow, I've never ever seen a gas light come on, no way.

LOL thats normal....these gas tanks and lights for it arent as sohpisticated as the new tanks....im sure its not even a sensor...most likely somethin bobbin around in there....somethin cheap...dont worry bout it...all u have to know is E is empty and thats tru....

my gas light comes on all the time...too hard a turn...blah blah

AHhahA, ok cool. Well it sounds to me like the light has so many problems its actually a good thing that mine never comes on.

Defiant,
I checked my car and the low gas warning light does not come on with the normal key-on-bulb-test. I think that that's normal. The light DOES warn me of low fuel, though.

Bad bulb? For those that never seen it on*

My light does not come on when I turn the key to start the car.

It's unlikely that a bulb that's used so little would be blown out... but shit happens, I guess!!
Of course, still check out that bulb.
Sometimes vibration and old age are enough to break the filaments inside those dash bulbs.

...So my vote is: "a modified ditto"
