I was under my car this weekend and noticed I've been leaking oil from the crank area. I tightened a squeaky PS belt last Spring, could I have overtightened it creating the leak? I loosened it enough so the squeal didn't come back, but now I'm scared I did permanent damage to a main bearing.

Crank area? Like, directly under the underdrive pully?

How much is leaking?

It sounds to me like your front main seal is gone.

Fear not, however, it's not that big of a deal to replace. If you've done a timing belt yourself, you can replace the main seal in a snap. You don't even have to drain the oil, or remove the front case. Just the crank gears.

I drained my oil, drained all my coolant only to remove the main crank gears and see the main seal staring me in the face.

Live and learn.

Also check one of the tensioner bolts, depending on how loose it is, it'll leak oil as it runs into an oil passage.

I'll check it out when I put my 264/272's in the beginning of next month.

How big of a pain is it going to be to pull that seal? Doesn't sound like a good time at ALL:cry:
