Hi everyone,

I bought this '97 Eclipse GSX three weeks ago with 21k miles and NOW I get to know about all this crankwalk issue.

People I'm scared.

I do not feel any of the cwalk signals yet but I was planning on a Stage 1 upgrade to the car and this problem is pulling me back and even considering to sell the car. I'm totally lost about it even though I've read a lot of information about it.

I was wondering if with so low-mileage I can simply go to my mitsu mechanic and ask him to open up and have a look. If it's ok, wait a few more miles and if it looks like its starting to show some "uneven loads" (thanks vfaq) on the bearings get them changed ASAP. Or even change the crankshaft for a one that sits still.

Thanks in advance :(

If you don't have any symptoms, why the hell are you worried? People freak out about Crankwalk more than they should. IT DOES NOT HAPPEN TO EVERY 7BOLT!!! If you are REALLY that PARANOID, take it to your mitsu dealer and have them check it out.

I honestly think you are overeacting.

PS I'm not trying to sound mean, it just bugs me when everyone worries about CW.

Nah you don't sound mean, you just sound bugged, no problem with it :)

I understand you bugging, but please keep in mind that I'm a new owner of a used car that's been flooded with what you'd call "paranoid and over-reactive" sites about an apparent serious mechanical issue that would probably ruin the thing where his hard-earned money's gone to. So please be kind and give me a brake :(

I don't really know if its a problem that when detected promptly, damage is reduced (yeah excuse my English :p), nothing more. If you tell me that it's going to be the same damage and solution a 50k mile walking crank that a 22k mile one, I'll go to sleep and patiently wait for the synthomps to appear.

Thanks for your feedback :)

Any more opinions?

You nailed it; whether you get it at 5 miles or 500,000 miles -- it's the same deal. There is no known reliable fix once a motor has crankwalked; generally, you replace the short block. There are two ways to do that: put in another 7-bolt or do a 6-bolt conversion.

Nobody knows the incidence of crankwalk except Mitsubishi and they aren't telling. Have fun, enjoy your car, and deal with it when/if it occurs.

Could chances of getting prostate cancer increase if my 2G has a walking crank? Didn't know about that. I'm definetely taking the car for a lookup right now.

Thanks for the information !
