wont start/ no spark?

Ok this has been bugging me for a while and i have more info now. I have a '91 eclipse 1.8 that i believe is getting no spark. When the problems first started the coolant level light would stay on and thats all. Then the car would not start sometimes and if i where to let it sit a little while maybe 5-10 mins. it would start. then it just got to the point where it would not start at all and the check engine light would not come on when i try to start it. After it sitting for several months the check engine light now comes on when i try to start it but i dont think it is getting spark. I was told to check for spark with a screwdriver in the end of the plug wire and grounding it. I know it is getting fuel cause i can smell it. Is it possible when someone else was working on it the set the timing way off and that is why it is not sparking or what could the problem be. Help please. Sorry this is so long but i want my car back on the road. Thanks

the timing being off doesnt cause lack of spark it just comes at a different time. i dont know much about 1g or 1.8 but on my gsx i had the timing off after a t-belt change and it still started just ran shitty.

Thank you Forced, Someone told me It did thats why i was so confused......,, But now that I know its something else Im thinking either my ECU which i had some caps replaced earlier this year, or maybe the MPI any other ideas for US bro??????????//

I had a similar problem with my 94 GSX. Turns out it was the cam angel sensor, your car will have a distributor cap. Might try that.

If Im not mistaken, no, 1.8 liters dont hace a cam angle sensor, but instaed have a distributor and a coil pack to go along with it. Ive been wrong in the past, but Im pretty sure.

Well tommorrow im gonna go get a new distributor and ecu......................hopefully she'll be rolling tomorrow night .....................

I'm having the same problem, check your ECU. I just pulled mine and there is a leaky capacitor, It smell like it's fried...

well i got it to where i am getting spark. now i dont think i am getting fuel. she tries to start but when i barely even move the throttle while trying to start it the motor shakes violently. i took the fuel filler cap off and listened for the fuel pump but didnt hear anything. does anyone know how to test the fuel pump and the relay (located near the ecm correct)? btw it was just a lose wire on my dist. oh well we all make mistakes.
