Hello guys...

When you have problem with crankshaft and pistons does the car start and ride??

Thanks

That is an extremely vague question. The pistons don't have anything to do with crankwalk; are you asking something else there?

In the early stages of crankwalk on a 2G, the car will keep running but will have some funny symptoms (ticking noises, clutch gets stuck down sometimes and etc.). Once it gets bad enough, the crank angle sensor will get smashed (thats the ticking sound you would have been hearing) and then the car stops running.

The 1G cars can have some degree of crankwalk and it's harder to notice because there is no crank angle sensor to tick or get smashed. Eventually crankwalk will do in any car; a friend of mine just had it happen to a Ford Bronco.

Where does that ticking sound come from? I heard a ticking yesterday briefly as I was warming up my car. Near the timing belt area. <<< This was a few days after the the clutch fell to the floor and I couldn't / can't select a gear (resulted in tow) with the car running.? I've replaced the MC and slave cyl. No change, still not able to get it in gear. I'm hoping its a bad fork, TOB, PP or Disk. any thoughts? am I screwed? 95GST.

Thanks
Todd

The ticking comes from the Crank Angle Sensor, which is down by the crank sprocket. Behind the crank sprocket is a metal plate with cutouts in it. That plate rotates and the slots pass right underneath a sensor that reads that and thus tells the ECU where the crank is positioned. When you get crankwalk, the crankshaft shifts towards the driver side of the car, this makes the plate hit the sensor and you get a ticking sound at first. Eventually, it will chew through the sensor and the engine will stop.

OK pop quiz. How hard is it to install a 1g Crankshaft in a 2g motor. I have a firend that wants to sell me a 1g motor with no trnasmission and no turbo .. but it was a turbo motor. Could i take the crank out of it and put it in my 2g engine? also where else is a good place to buy an aftermarket crankshaft?
