tach stoped working----help me!!!!!

My stock tach stoped working to day, about two days ago i was coming home from school (4 gear about 3500 rpm)and i noticed my tach go to zero than back and again to zero and back, after that it worked fine,this morning i was warming my car up and the tach worked for about 3 mins and just died (went to 0) and does not work again, What can cause this can some one please help me:cry:

I think NOT!!!!

On the other hand, im in the process of swapping trannies auto to 5-speed, are the tachs different, meaning higher red line? Or are they the same?

i think i will try to fix my stock tach,:D


Do any of u know what can cause the tach to go dead :mad: :mad: :mad:

I got 2 extra 1990 nt tach's they are different than 91-94 If ya want one of my extra's (might fix your problem) let me know Ill give it to ya for next to nothing.
1. Maybe your cluster took a poop replace it
2. Power Transistor took a poop replace it
3. Coil pack maybe the wire sending signal came off or somehow got disconnected replace it

Thats about all i can think of
 
hey, where is the power transistor located,and what color ,and where the on the coil the wire is located. & another question, the tach signal comes from where the ecu or the coil, thanks.

Coil pack and power transistor is on the drivers side of the fuel rail tucked into that area on the intake manifold. I lnow on the 90's the tach signal comes from the coil pack but am unsure of which wire sorry
