OK here's the deal. (The long version)

In Canada and own a 93 Eagle Talon ESI (Canada's Non-Turbo Eclipse) The cars in great condition and totally stock. NO ADD-ONS at all.

About two weeks ago I fired her up in the morning and everything was normal. I drove down the drive-no problem, then as soon as I went to hit the gas to get out of my drive the car almost stalled. That's how fast it started. One Second fine - the next, No Power. So here's where I am now.....

SYMPTOMS:
When Starting Cold - the car starts Rough and idles at about 500rpm. If you try and give it gas it ususally bogs out. After about 5 or 10 mins, once the engine is warm, if you nurse the heck out of the throttle you can get it to rev up. The main problem is below 2000 rpm. Even once you get the rpms up to 3000 as soon as you try and move the car the Rpms drop and you have to floor it to get the car moving. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT DOES NOT COME ON.

THINGS THAT HAVE BEEN CHECKED OR REPLACED:
The first mechanic changed the fuel filter, spark plugs, checked the wires, disconnected the catalytic converter and did a compression test, no change. He thought it was probably a sensor and he didn't have the computer to diagnose it. only charged me $100, soooooo.....

At A Mitsubishi DEALERSHIP.....
They checked the sensors on the ECM and found no codes, pulled my dash appart( and didn't put it together right - I love extra screws and lights that flash on and off ) and checked the ECM-no problem, then they drained the fuel tank, checked the gas, fluched the fuel system, cleaned the injectors, and replaced my coil pack. They charded me $600 and STILL NOTHING. and I'm not rich enough to pay $79/hr for them to rip everything apart and replace parts that are not the problem sooooo...

Another Mechanic has re-checked all the things already done - as well as checking for vacume leaks. and Still NO SOLUTION!!!!!

Right now I'm waiting to here back from a 4th mechanic after he checks the fuel pressure, pressure regulator and timing. But if that check out- I'm totally STUMPED!!!!

Has everyone missed something small and stupid!

HELP - I'M AT THE END OF MY ROPE!!!!!!!!

WHEN I DO FIND THE PROBLEM I WILL POST THE SOLUTION - Which annoyingly lots of people forget to do here!

Thanks for any help

check 2 things the MAS sensor and the ISC in the throttle body your problems might be those... get them of a working car and try them out before you go buy them for ALOT of money...

^^how about the motor temperature sensor that sends the temp. signal to the ECU,if it tells the Ecu that the motor is hot when its freezing outside, then it probably run too lean and stutter...^^

ive learned to check this b/c many older ECU didnt set a CEL when this sensor was busted...

Has everyone missed something small and stupid! ^^

hope this helps...

ps ,a buddy of mine didnt drive his car for ages and had the same symtoms, anyways a few hundred Euros later and no results,he had found a old Wasps nest! in his Air filter!!!...

The MAS Airflow Sensor was replaced about 20,000 km ago($800 CDN), but I don't think anyone's done an OHM test on the actual sensors themselves..Thanks for the Idea- As for the ISC in the throttle body, I know that hasn't been checked so I'll pass those on to my mechanic to test... He hasn't "got around" to checking the fuel pressure yet.. but he's SUPPOSED to do it today.

Thanks I'll let you know

I'll check the temp sensor too - As for WASPS... I'm sure that's not my problem!!!!! The Filters are all clean!

Thanks

Hey there I found the problem!:thumb:

But the news is BAD!!!!! :(

Turns out that the counter balace belt broke and managed to make my timing belt skip TWO TEETH.

So now I have to either throw the engine out or rebuild the F'n Head, depending on how badly it's impacted!!!

 Does anyone know if the ECM would tell them that the timing was out????

And just so you know how I managed to track it down... I bought the Hayes manual for $20 and went through the check list. If I had a Timing light I would have checked it myself, because it's the FIRST THING TO CHECK if you have a loss of power.

I STRONGLY URGE EVERYONE TO GET BOTH THE TIMING AND COUNTER BALANCE BELTS CHECKED REGULARLY.

This is engine number two for this car because of that stupid little belt. Last time it cost me $4000.00 to drop a new engine in.

I suppose when telling a mechanic to "CHECK THE BELTS" I need to give them a guide book, a map and step-by-step instructions on how do thier job and then stand over thier shoulder to make sure that their REALLY DOING IT, just so I never have this stupid problem again.

Either that or learn to be a mechanic and do it myself!

Thanks for all the suggestions - awesome site :thumb:

BTW . . . . . .
Anyone know anybody looking for a 93 Eagle Talon?

I'm selling mine!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:shhh:

damn I am th bomb I was getting ready to say check the timing.... but my explanation was going to be more like a bad tensioner that let the belt skip when you stabbed the gas.. well my suggestion would be a balance shaft eliminator kit and a new timing belt and hope you didn't bend any valves
