I have a 1990 Talon TSI AWD and one day while it was idling it all of a sudden shut off and the ecu started smoking. I am going to replace it but I just wanted ot make sure that my new one doesnt burn to. Here are some pics and I circled in yellow what was burnt. What got burnt??? Any help would be great!!!!The ECU number is MD145903 if that helps. (This isnt my ecu or picture but it is pretty close so I just edited it and circled what was burnt on mine)

Same thing happened to my friends when he forgot to ground the ECU to the firewall...whoopsy!

It is an ouput driver. My guess, is that you have something shorted in your car. You should be able to find a new one, but make sure you check the rest of the circuit before replacing.

By the way, what ECU is pictured? I like the daughter board set-up.

What wires should I really look at, I just did a clutch job and had everything apart but Im positive i re-connected everything. The pic is from another ecu some guy showed on here its apparently a added on eprom to a non-eprom ecu. But anyway any tips on where to look for a bad ground? Or is mine even repairable?

They are M5269L - low saturation output drivers.(Like AWDriven said)
They are numbered IC104-IC109 which one did you fry?

Probably a short somewhere outside the ecu(Like AWDriven said).I have a ecu torn apart on my bench, but I couldn't track down the output. You gonna want to find the problem before you replace/fix the ecu.If I have some time I'll try some more tommorrow.
