Williamsburg,
:dsm: i got a problem that is driving me crazy.i went to dsmtalk and some are helpfull but anyways i just got the motor rebuilt and everything is fine with the motor but one mourning i got in the car and started it it ideled really ruff.it still does it.i check the timing i check the coil packs there brand new changed the plugs and wires the only thing i can think of is that it could be the egr valve.if anyone elese knows please help me it also sounds like it is missing or backfiring but someone help it is driving me crazy

i never really thought of that it could be but i would smeel gas if it was leaking.and i can here the fuel pump working.but then again it could be but i highly doubt that.it works ok under boost i get a little hestation but other then that it is ok

Unplug the top vacuum line on the EGR and plug it with your finger with the car running and see if that fixes your idling problem, if it is the EGR then the car needs to be at operating temp then test it.

I think he meant the one on the actual valve. It's underneath the intake manifold. You should just install a blockoff plate, and keep the lines on there.

Right Woody91GSX, but if the valve itself is bad it will still put a bad vacuum signal out and cause the car to idle horribly even with a block off plate.:thumb:

so do you guys think i am right that it is the egr valve.the car runs but idles horribly.well i really hope it is the egr valve i bought one so i hope it fix it.well i will keep yall in touch let me know what you guys still think

Cool. Should just get rid off all those vacuum lines anyway. Just taking up space, and it'll be less weight. Haha. :shhh:

so i realy dont need the egr valve?it is one of those parts they put there just to do it?so if i was to get rid of those vaccum line how would i do that and how would the car act to that.

You don't need the EGR. What is does is recirculates exhaust gases back in to the intake to take up air space. It's called "Exhaust Recirculation Valve." You can make or buy a small blockoff plate for it. For your emissions though, you mght not be able to pass if you have emissions testing. I know I'm leaving somethng out - does that help?

so all i got to do is make a plate that will block the egr valve place.but then what do i do about the vaccum lines?and will it effect my idle still?i hate to be a bother but i just want to know as much as i can before i do it

Just follow the vacuum lines from the EGR to where they connect under the thermostat housing disconnect them from EGR pull them through then cut a small piece and loop it around the two connection on the vacuum connector. If you remove it completely you will need shorter bolts unless your block off plate is just as thick as the EGR base. Hope this helps you out.:thumb:

so i wont need to take the egr valve out i can leave it ther and just redirect the lines?do i need to plug off the egr valve plugs too.

:) :dsm:
i just want want to think everyone who had replyed and i got the car working again so now it is time to get back to tuning it.i also want to say that the people at this site r more helpful then the guys at dsmtalk.but thanks and you will be seeing my name again
