I have recently finished swapping a 94 non-turbo head on my 97 GST.

I used the valvetrain that was in the head. Im guessing its the same as a turbo model. I swapped the cams with 1G turbo cams. I installed and wired a 1G CAS to do the ignition timing. I used the non turbo intake manifold and blocked off the EGR. I kept the 2G coil pack and the 2G throttle body. I switched plug wires 1&4 and 2&3. I kept the injector wiring the same.

The car started up on the first crank but something is wrong. It idles like a BIG set of cams and only pulls 7lbs of vaccume. I checked the belt timing and everything is correct.

When I went on a test drive, I noticed power loss in the low rpm's. Up high is a different story. It pulls through redline with no problem. I have also noticed it running leaner than before.

I know the cams are what I stated before because they came from a reputable source.

WHAT IS THE PROBLEM?????

Mabey a bent valve on startup? (It made alot of noise) Mabey the throttle body? I did a pressure test with good results. Mabey I need a 1G coil pack.

Im just looking for another perspective. Thanks

Your timing is off. I know it may look right, but unless you line those cams up EXACTLY perfect you WILL have those symptoms. Trust me I've been there done that (on my 1G head swap no less, LOL).

I did a compression and leak down test. 1-2-4 = 110, 3 = 30 psi

Leak-down test showed a 90% leak on #3. Well, it leaked like this for 10 sec then somehow sealed up to 10%. I did the test several times with the same results.

I have been driving like this for some time now. Nothing has changed. Weird thing is, it has power. I feel a loss of torque down low, but top end is crazy. In 2nd, I know when to shift as soon as it hits the rev limiter. I dont feel it nose over at 68-7000 like it used to.

Im thinking its something with a bent valve or a soft lifter. Ive been too lazy, um, buisy at the shop to take a look at it.

Thanks for the replys.
