Hey guys,, just got my first dsm,, it's a 94 talon fwd 2.0 non turbo, 5 speed.
Just want to make sure im not missing anything here,, im new to dsm's and love it so far, and love the way there designed.
i bought it with 118k on it, nice shape fully loaded for 400 bucks with the well known broke timing parts, the last owner went ahead and changed the balancer belt and timing belt, but didnt know it was an interference engine, all of the intake valves look to be surly bent. all there rockers are laying on top of the head and the springs are all compressed.
i've got a good sized shop, and an overhead crane to pull the engine.
just want to get some help from people on here who have done it before.
pretty much just standard engine swap right?
i've got all connections to the engine disconnected and out of the way, i have left all the motor mounts connected untill i go to pull it, i beleave i have all the tranny to block bolts out, although i have heard talk on here about having to dissconnect the axles to get to other bolts?
other then what i have said, it should pretty much pull right out right?
i'm pulling the engine and putting it on my engine stand , where it will be far easy to work on, and instail a new head, timing set, ect.

Thanx in advance!

Isaac

that should about cover it, you might wana ask some one about pulling the engine w/o the tranny, i myself have enver done this i have only pulled engine and tranny.

would it be easyer to pull engine and trans?
and about having to remove the axle(s) to get to some of the tranny to block bolts,, is this true?
Thanx again!

I recently tried pulling the engine w/o the tranny and it is close to impossible to do you just dont have enough room to get the clutch and flywheel out of the bellhousing. just pull'm both it'll save you hours of work. Jus take off the knuckle and pull the axles out and then lift the engine out. If you have a lift I would drop the engine out through the bottom as that would be infinetly easier than pulling it out of the top.

mine isnt turbo,, and it's not all wheel drive,, are you sure it would be easyer to take it out through the bottum?
i already have what looks like everything out of the way on top for both to clear, it looks like i would have to do alot more to drop it all out of the bottum, as it is now it looks like i can pull the whole motor (and trans if indeed there is not enough room to seperate them) out through the top, and i even still have the alternator, a/c pump, and p/s pump all still attactched. plus i just have an overhead trolly crane in my shop, i dont have a full car lift.
I may be wrong, and thats why im here LOL
also, how involed is it to get the knuckles off on this car?, i have a c-clamp press in my shop as well if needed.
once you remove the knuckles do the axles just pull right out then?
Thanx you guys for all the help already!

Isaac

well i am actually in the middle of this also... i have a 90 eclipse and i'm pulling both at the same time but well getting the "knuckles" off depends on how tight they are... i broke 2 ratchets and bent a wrench trying to take one side off where as the other side broke free easily... i just went ahead and removed the A frame to make room to pop the axles out... i wouldn't "pull" them i would get a good size pry bar and wedge it between the axle and the trans and pry it that way so you don't pull the bearings free... i'm about to go work on it some more still not sure if i have everything disconnect but we shall see

i havnt yet,,
the project is on hold,, im running power to my new shop which has an overhead crane.
so still looking for advice on this!.
Thanx
Isaac

i didnt have any kind of hoist to pull the engine and tranny but i removed the tranny 1st. i didnt need need to pull the axles to get to any of the bolts. i dropped the engine and tranny from bottom of car and slid em out from underneath. but with a hoist it will be easier to pull engine and tranny together all at once. dropping them both from bottom didnt take long at all but i had to raise the front of the car bout 3 feet to have room to slide engine out just use a pry bar to pop the axles out.
