Adams,
A few days ago the belt that is on the alternator, water pump pulley, and crank pulley started to squeek, and then I began to lose power. It seemed like the alternator wasn't doing it's job, so I checked the belt and it was loose. I tightened it and later on in the night it lost power again. Once running the belt squeeled very loud and came off.

Upon replacing the belt this morning it looks like the water pump pulley is wabbling as it spins. I can't tell wether this is just vibration from the engine or something to worry about.

Would you say that some "wabbling" is alright for that pulley? I'm planning to just stay close to home and/or keep a belt and 10mm socket with me for a while.

What would I see if it were warped?

Sounds like your harmonic balancer is dead. The rubber between the rim and hub fails.

1G's don't have a harmonic balancer I thought. That's because we have balance shafts. Please correct me if I'm wrong defiant. Also, my water pump pulley wobbled a lot too. I did a timing job, replaced a ton of stuff, including the water pump, and the new water pump pulley wobbles a lot too. I don't get it, but I've had it like this for a few months w/o problems.

both 1gs an 2gs have balance shafts and harmonic balancers... :thumb:

I had my timing belt and related parts and the water pump replaced about half a year ago. I noticed some wobbling in the water pump pulley after this was done, but i haven't really thought about it or checked to see if it still does it and my car has been running just fine. I think it might have something to do with the aligment of the alternator and water pump pulleys?

Yes, 1g's and 2g's both have harmonic balancers AND balance shafts. They serve two separate roles. The harmonic balancer keeps the crank in balance while it is getting pounded by pistons. Imagine a wobbly (not CW) crank spinning at 7000rpm. The balance shafts are used to lessen the feel of vibration of a straight four firing the way our engines do. This is so that all of those old ladies that you 1g AWD guys bought your cars from wouldn't think the enigine was falling apart :thumb: .
