I am completly fed up with this beast. I guess i should start from the root. I pulled off the head to swap out the headgasket for a cooling issuie(different thread, still not resolved) and now that it is all back together I can't get it to run right. Processes.....
1. Pulled Head, decked head (not first time), new stock gaskets all around.
2. Re-assymbled everything, re-used tensioner and belt (oops)...car runs like A$$
3. Pulled assymbly apart, put everything in perfect time, new tensioner and belts. reassymbled.... runs like A$$
4. Pulled assymbly apart, changed out valve seals, reassymbled....ASS again
5. Pulled assymbly apart to repair Cam Position Sensor form step 4, reassymbled......runs like A$$
6. like magic found broken coil pack for #1 & #4, changed...A$$, but nowhere near as bad
7. Pulled assmbly apart for giggles (I can now do a timing belt in about 1 and a half hrs. from start to finish), changed plugs, borrowed known good wires.......A$$

I am now fixing all other known problems as not to confuse the wrench turner when I slam this hunk of sh!t. I forgot to mention this. As the car is now if I reset the ecu the car will run, it runs like A$$, but it still runs. if you turm it off then turn it back on, it will only run for 5 seconds...nomatter what. but if you re-set the ecu you can do it all over again. I actually think my answer lies within this, but I don't see it. Any opinion will be greatly appreciated as labor rates around northern virginia are 85 an houre, so i am in no rush to get it to a shop. Thanks for sharing in on my pain.

As far as I can explaine.....other than listening past the exhause leaks, it sounds like it is mis-timmed. A constant misfire if you will. If you were to get on it it would take forever to build up the rpm's and it feels like the spark is trying to punch thru a brick wall. all this is at idle. i have not even attempted to put it on the road. it smokes a ton, and it is enough to choke out the neighborhood, so it is an excess fuel issue I am guessing. also I have the exhause manifold off right now and #1 and #4 are covered with WET goo (oil/fuel mix)while #2 and #3 are dry as a bone. I am gonna get some sleep and them mayby tomorrow i can give a better summerey

Update for anyone who might be paying attention.
I finally got most of the exhaust leaks fixed, along with the knock sensor. Everything is back together and just as before, the car is running like it is missing. and still doing the 5 second trick

I finally got most of the exhaust leaks fixed, along with the knock sensor. Everything is back together and just as before, the car is running like it is missing. and still doing the 5 second run-then-die move. So I got brave while I was checking timing and I realized that number 1 and 4 are not firing...AGAIN. so now I have wasted my money on the new coil pack I bought earlier. I give up...any ideas on what will cause a coil pack to go bad...twice?

It's not that. I could only hope for something that simple. If you were to pull the wire off of the coil for #1 with the car running there is no effect in how the engine runs, meaning there is no spark coming out of that coil pack. the same goes for #4

Are you sure your computer is good. I believe it gives the signal to fire. When my ecu went out it would spark sometimes and not others. Just an idea.

I got an idea from Jessie at slowboy. He wants me to put a 1g cas on the car and see how it reacts to this......more to follow

Well.......
Calle Jessie at slowboy, got an idea. He says"put a cas on your car, and see if it works"...yeah, cause it;s supper easy and all. The install takes like 20 seconds and retarted monkeys can do it, but now for the trickey part.... The Static inverter. being it that I am not a master electrician it took me about 7 attempts at this box, but now I finally have one that works..so far. Now for the fun. By eliminating tboth CPS' I now know it is one of them that is the culprit...thank god mitsu always has the answers, too bad they cost a ton. I will put in the new crank sensor, again and see if it works
