i checked out what the shifter movement was in my car, at vfaq. But mine moves in 2nd and up, i guess that means its just looser? Well i went to Advance and he told me what oil and to use black rtv instead of red? If this is wrong I need someone to tell me. And how might i get ahold of a 36mm socket?? Any insights would be great.:thumb:

i forgot to explain what the actuall prob was, sorry. These two 36mm bolts in the transfer case come loose and make your shifter move when you get on or off the gas. Eventually they can come loose(i guess). I don't want that, so i'm tryin' to fix it.--i'm no pro mechanic either.

ok, so i just pulled my transfercase cover off, then this copper/goldish sprocket falls out with it. Should that happen? it has threads on the inside, but nothing to thread onto. i need some help, and fast.

ignore the red, the blue line shows the piece that just fell out, it has a sort of lock washer behind it.(pic is from vfaq)

Trust me, mine also popped off as soon as I took the case off. I wasn't sure how it went back on, so I took a guess, put it all back together, and it would not come out of reverse. So I ended up tearing it apart again, and figured out how the gear went back on by having someone take it in and out of gear, as I figured out how exactly it worked and what would make the most sense. Make sure you put the clip back in behind it..

That would be the reverse synchro that falls out. Easiest way to put it back in is put the car in reverse so the slider moves to engage the syncro. Then the slider will hold the synchro while you put the end case back on. Make sure you don't overtighten the reverse light switch (if you pulled it out for some reason), or you won't be able to put the car in 5th.

thanks guys
too bad i had to find out w/out your help, but i guess its better to understand it by trying..
although i didnt understand what the clip was for..

Yeah I would be interesting in knowing if this fixed the problem as well. My shifter moves back in forth in all gears... I thought the fix on the vfaq was mainly if it moves in 5th only.

Thanks,
-Greg
