Runs terrible when cold

I did a search and couldn't come up with anything.
Many times when I start my car I hear a POOF come out of the exhaust. And when I drive when the engine is still relatively cold, It is so hard to drive, its like it doesn't want to go at all. Also when I rev then engine it feals like it doesn't want to rev, it just stutters on its way up? I know performance is lower when the engine is cold but this seems a little extreme to me. It seems to run fine when its warmed up. Any ideas as to what this is? Does anyone else have this problem? Thanks in advance.

Arent you suppose to let the car warm up until the gauge goes up alittle bit, i would think that being that way all the fluids will warm up and flow better, when i first start my car and if i dont let it warm up when i go to shift it is harder but as soon as i let it warm up it is normal. i thought my car seemed faster when it was cold well my old gs anyways . well sorry i couldent be much help and probably didnt answer your question but i heard its always good to let your car warm up a bit and its not good to just get in it and go

mine does something similar but i think it has to do with the idling problem i have. when it's cold it hesitates, and when i rev it up it goes up slow, stays there for like a half second, then goes back down to idle. when it warms up it's runs good but then i have idle surge.

I don't drive it much when the engine is cold, just sometimes when I don't have time to wait, even then I am really cautious. I just figured that such a lack in performance was uncommon. I don't have the idle surge problem however when The engine is cold it idles around 14K rpms no matter what.
