I just got my car out of the shop after spending 900 bucks for my timing belt replacement, coolant hose replacement, oil change, alt belt, p/s belt, and tensioner replacement.

So today is the first day out of the shop that I am able to drive it home. Well when I get home it seems fine, besides the oil smell from all the oil tossed all over the engine that they cleaned off. I imagine the smell will go away.

Anyhow, I am driving to work today in 2nd gear about 2krpm and all of a sudden my rpm's drop to 0 and my car dies. I start it up and again its working fine and then does the same thing. I am then really leary about starting it again, but I figure maybe the timing is off a bit and I can drive it to the dealer that did the work so they can find out what's wrong... Nope! I try to start it again, but it does the same thing from an idle. So i push it into a parking lot and I am going to call lithia dodge today and see if they can pay for the tow and fix whatever the hell is wrong with the car.. But before I give them a call... Has anyone ever had this problem before?

Thanks!

Well, I am having it tow'd as we speak. The only other thing that seemed weird was that the car when it was running at idle before it died I was able to look under the hood and it sounded almost like two wires arcing creating a spark sound. Any idea what this would be? It was a constant arcing sound too so I immediatly shut the car off. Anyhow, dodge is going to look at the car and determine the problem at no cost. I will keep you updated.

Very well could be... It didnt surge or anything.. It only does it when im at low rpms, say between 1-2,500k. It will then just die. Would my Biss cause this problem?

Lithia has had my car for about 4 hours today and cant find where the problem is coming from. They know that the problem exists but cant seem to find where its at. They said that they had it in the air and it was making the sound and then all of a sudden the sound stopped. He is not sure exactly what it is, however he thinks it is something electrical related. He says there is one wiring harness that splits into 6 others that seem to go into the engine and the problem might be from one of them harnesses.

Any ideas?

have you checked the big fuse up on the battery. my fuse blew and the car would shut off anytime it felt like. i changed it and it went away..

I have replaced the alternator, fuses, battery, changed the timing belt, a/c belt, p/s belt, tensioner etc.. I have also changed my oil and swapped out a coolant hose. New rebuilt motor at 120k miles. New ACT2600 at 124k miles. Only thing that hasnt been replaced is the tranny. I am planning to do that here shortly too. However I still have been unable to figure out the problem with the weird RPM drop off and the car dying for no reason. It didnt seem to matter if I added more gas or not. The car just dies when it wants to. Could this be a fuel regulator problem?
