yesterday i had my a/c belt break on my 98 gsx, and know the car will not start, you can hear the starter engage the flywheel and then their is nothing. Has this happened to anyone, or does anyone have any ideas as to what in the engine may be frozen. (crankpully?)
i have 66k on the car w/a new timing, and balance belt on at 60k.

PLEASE HELP!!!!!

is there any one out their that has any ideas as to why i am experencing such problems w/just a busted ac belt!

you sure it's just the ac belt? did you check timing belt? did you take out the a belt and maybe you unhooked some sensor or something? seems rather odd that car can't start cuz ac belt is broken/off.

When you say "engage the flywheel and then there is nothing" do you mean it cranks and doesn't catch or the pinion gear pops out to the flywheel and doesn't spin the engine?

the car does not crank at all, all you here it the ticking of the starter, and then nothing. the timing belt is still there is there a way to check to see if the timing belt skipped?

Someone please help me!

I have had a 2g that the A/C belt flew off and slipped in behind the crank pulley and into the timing belt. It skipped 2 teeth. Fortunately for her car it was easily fixed. However, yours sounds worse. I would first try to turn the engine by hand. If you can't, expect the worst. Then I would tear down the timing cover and inspect the timing belt, etc. Try to line it up. If it is way off and you can't turn the engine, you more than likely bent valves. You can confirm that by resetting the timing belt and crank it over without the cover on, etc to save you time. If it cranks up, you are very, very lucky. If it doesn't and sounds like you are missing a cylinder or all of them, pull the head.

But, if you can crank it by hand. Line up the timing belt just to make sure nothing is out of whack. Then you should remove the starter and inspect it for damage. Flywheel too.

if his battery was dead then he wouldn't hear any ticking. It could be the starter too, you may hear it clicking but it's not working. When I had a taurus, sometimes I had to poke the starter with a wooden stick to get it to work LOL

try jump starting it....it woudl tick if the battery is dead but not turn over
u probly lost the alternator belt and ur battery went dead...make sure all the little pulleys turn when it cranks

Wrong my friend.I had a dead battery almost and when you turned the key it would tick looud and clear but it would not engage to teh starter as it should.Only thing I heard was the ticikng sound. Try replaceing a battery with a loaner or something just to see if its the battery.I did and my car started up right as it should:)

I second that EuroGSTSpyder. A low battery can have enough power for the solenoid to move the pinion gear into place, but not enough to keep it there while cranking. A really bad battery will only click once or twice and then stop.

i cant line up the timing, nothing will turn, so i pulled the spark plugs and the ends of them are completely crushed, i took a scope to look down into the cylinders and in #4 theirs a huge gouge in the side in #3 it looks like the valve stamped the top of the pison head, the car is getting towed to where i bought it 5 months ago, (with no extended warranty) and hopefully they are going to be willing to work with me on the cost of replaceing the entire engine. currently i dont know if the crankpully seperated to allow the ac belt to get back their or if it is just another magic bullet theory. the kicker is when i bought the car i was told that they had done the full 60K service, timing, balance belt but they put the old acc. belts back on, so if the belt were go enough to put back on they should of lasted longer than 5 months.
