I have a 90 Tsi and it wont start. I determined that its getting fuel but no spark. I tried to test the coil as they said how to in chiltons, But im not sure if i did it right. Oh the first test i got 11k ohms wich was ok. But on the second test chiltons said it should of been between 0.77 and 0.95. I got nothing. I whipped up a few pics of how i tested it in photo shop. Im no artist, but youll get the idea. Am i testing this right? And if i am, Do i need a new coil??

So is that how you test it?? Okay, out to test mine. If you dont have a spark, i would check to see that your cam sensor is turning/sending signals to the computer. Best way to do it, is pull the cam sensor, and turn the sensor, while listening to the injectors with a screw driver. If they fire, then try using a timing light to see if your getting any voltage to the plugs though the wires. If all good there, check for kinks in your fuel line. Also, make sure to do a compression test on the cylinders to make sure your compression is good. If all is good, you should have a running engine (cant you tell i been through this before). Check to make sure the cam sensor is inserted properly into the cam (it can be reversed by accident). I think i pretty much covered it. Also if your idle is too low/ or you have leaks/probs with your intake you might need to step on the gas before starting the car.

Did i miss anything?

It could possibly be the primary side of the coil. I will do my best to explain it. Take the plug that the wiring harness plugs in to to coil. Look at it with the tab facing up. Take yuor ohm meter and put the leads on the top left and the top right terminals. The resistance should be very low between .77 to .95ohms. The take the leads and put them on the upper right and the lower right. These also should be very low and be about the same as the other readings.

I tried the low (harness) side of the coil. I got no reading. It went to zero. Does this mean my coil is bad?

Bingo!! Sorry to hear about that, But that should solve the problem.:thumb:

In the Haynes Manuel it says if it checks low or no resistance it's a good coil. tha's maybe not your problem. I'm having the same problem about my car won't start. But I think it's my CAS. Check your CAS too that may be the problem that the ECU can't read it. Have any water got on your plugs, coils, or wires?

Thanks, Just saved me from buying a new coil. Which Manual should i pick up? I was told chilton was the best, guess not LOL.;) I just put in new plugs, and i tested the wires and the came out ok. Im thinking its either the transistor, CAS, or my ecu. Once it gets a little warmer im gonna see what code the ecu is puting out.

I have te same problem and tomorrow i'im goin to check the CAS and transistor too. If you want to know if your coil is back the easiest way to do it is. connect the wire to the ignition coil and the spark plugs to the wire. have someone turn the car over to see if it'll spark at the spark plug. But you need to pull the spark plugs out the motor and watch them to see if they spark.
