if you do have a light for the oil, it should come on when the key is turned on, then should go off as soon as it is started. in my experience, 99% of the time, it is the sending unit that is bad or a bad connection. if u can't get a hold of a pressure gauge, i would get a new sending unit, especially if you know it has never been changed. but if you have to. you can start it up, and if there is no oil pressure you will get tapping from the valve cover. if you here this tapping, shut off immediately. one more thing, make sure there is the correct amount of oil in it, might have a possible leak that wasn't seen. and not gotten noticed. Personally, i would get a new sending unit if you can spare the money. at least this way you will know it is new.
also, oil related problems usually don't show up as codes, so it wouldn't come up, even if the the sending unit is bad, it will not set a code, because if it reads zero oil pressure, it assumes the engine is not running. hope this helps. good luck.
