I just purchased a 95 Talon TSI AWD. The previous owner was a mechanic and supposedly just changed the main bearings, did a full valve job, and replaced all belts including timing belt..

so, i was driving to a friends house and punched it from about 60mph.. Immediately I heard a loud THUNK and slowed down... The A/C got really warm.. Pulled over and noticed the a/c belt busted off.. Ok, no biggie.. We checked the other belts and they seemed overly tight..... we figured we would adjust them later...

So, we do a couple of free mods that effectively upped the boost to around 12 PSI.. Yes, I have a aftermarket boost gauge..

Ok, so, on the way home, I'm goin about 85mph, the car suddenly shuts off.. No noise, no clanking, just shut off... i pulled over to the side of the road.. Put it in park and tried to start it.. The engine cranked over but no compression or anything could be heard.. Obviously it was the timing belt.. I pulled the cover and sure enough, it was shredded to pieces..

The wierd thing is that I can turn the camgears with my bare hand... Did I actually break off some valves?

What are the chances I didn't damage anything?? HAHA I know that's probably not a good chance..

Thanks for any input..

Your valves are trashed.
The rocker arms are probably laying in the bottom of the head too. That's probably why it's so easy to turn each camshaft.

that's what i thought.. haha.. ok.. well, i'm guessing if my valves are trashed then my pistons are pretty dented up too right?

Yes, they very well may be dented up, but that doesn't imply that they are unusable. In many cases, you can grind/sand down the edges of the dent so that there are no sharp-angled corners that could create potential hotspots.

But, the only way to know for sure is to pull the head and inspect.

yea, the engines got 100K on it so i think i'm just gonna buy a low mileage engine and swap em out... i searched and found tigerjapenese to be a good source for a low mileage engine... they aren't that expensive and seem to be pretty kosher..

anybody have experience with them?

while my other engine is out, I'll probably just build it slowly and then swap it out when the time is right :) i just need a reliable daily driver and my 95 talon is in outstanding condition.. new paint, 8/10 interior, fully loaded.. everything working....
