ok ...i got it to run fine, now i have a major issue.

I have a 1g 93 mitsu eclipse gs 5 speed w/ 4g63 N/T motor.

i have a bad relay now. i have no idea what it does, or what exactly it controls.
it started clicking really bad so i pulled my center console apart by the dash.

i found out where the clicking was coming from.

it is a relay that is stamped with the mitsu logo with the letters and numbers

E8T07071
:dsm:
2904

just like that. it also has what looks to be a double pin instert with 5 pins on the one with the clip and 4 pins on the one with out the clip.

the car was running really rough and everytim the relay clicked the tach needle would drop, so i am thinking it controls the idle somehow.

please any help would be greatly appreciated....

That's the MPI relay and everytime it clicks you are either shutting off the power to the ECU or the fuel pump. If the clicking and rpm drop also comes with a CEL each time then it's the power to the ECU switching. The first thing I'd look at is the battery voltage to see if it was dropping too low and then ECU for capacitor leakage damage.

Isn't there also a fuel pump relay there right beside the MPI relay?? Do they both switch the power going to the fuel pump??

Those are originals capacitors but even with both sets of glasses on I can tell anything else from those pictures. :)

anyone know the difference between the AWD GST and NA ecus? and are their different ones for an A/T and a 5 speed?

Want to be more specific? I don't really want to cover stuff I've posted time and time again.

ok. i know i have a nonEPROM ECU. it is out of a 93 eclipse GS.
the serial #/Part# is

MD166256
E2T36571

then under those it has

3205 M

i know its not EPROM from the links that have been givin to me. i would just like to know if i can just slap any ECU in there and have it run right, cause i am getting ready to go to the yard and get one. and if i can or cant, WHAT is the difference. Espeically with EPROM and nonEPROM

You can only run a N/T ecu, either auto or manual it does not matter. Turbo ecus will not work because the fuel maps are so different, and other wiring differences between the models. The N/T ecu's do not have eproms or at least I have never seen one on a N/T.

That is a California ECU unless the car is a California car you should be looking for a MD166255.

EPROM ECUs let you change the software so you can directly make corrections for larger injectors or add new functions. On a NT car it's not as big a advantage as on a turbo car.

Ok, so I now know that the ECU that was in my car is a cali based ECU. That I did not know. Now here's the big question.
I bought the car while I lived in cali...that would be why it has that ECU. (genious?)
I no longer live in cali though, so will it make a difference if I put a different one in? And if I moved back to cali, would I have to convert back to a cali ECU? Lastly, how much appox. would you all say I would have to spend to get on from a yard? I dont have 300-900 dollars to spend and I really don't want to screw this up.

I can change motors and trannys and do all the mechanicals, but this...i am so lost

The primary difference is with the EGR for emissions. You can run either a Federal or a California ECU since you have the hardware for it (the CA EGR valve, EGR Temp sensor, EGR Solenoid) in WV but I have no idea if you would pass with a Federal ECU once you took the car back to California.

The cheapest option might be to send your existing ECU out for repair. The odds of finding a CA ECU at a junk yard in WV are pretty slim, just finding a good ECU at a yard is tough. The capacitor leakage is a generic problem due to defective seals in the capacitors. All of the 1G ECUs are subject to it over time.

Well eBay or the classified might be cheaper but the risk is way higher. You can't be sure that you won't have to send it right out for repairs to avoid being stranded.

ok everyone. thanks for your help. i just ordered an ECU an got a good deal. i got mine for $40. plus i got a guarentee that if it doesnt work, they will send out another one. and so on. if you have problems with yours and you want to know where i went, pm me. they are a store on ebay, but have their own store either in cali or in ohio, i cant remember but i called and verified everything.
i will let you all know what happens when i put it in.
hopefully i wont need that relay and it was just the ECU sending a bad signal.
thanks for the help.

just an update for everyone.
i STILL havent gotten my ECU. the person i bought it from hasnt even checked their paypal account and i have sent them numerous messages. I still havent gotten a response from them. dont worry they are not on here.
it was supposed to be a reputable shop that i bought it from, but i havent gotten anything. whats the deal with that. hopefully i get it in the next few day.
I'll keep everyone posted

i got the ecu in today. and guess what.. I am really stoked. The car works better than it ever had. I had a problem starting it, but that was due to it being flooded from previous attempts. but after getting it started and running it, i finally worked out all the bugs. thanks so much for everyones helps and diagnoses.
