Well the other day I was driving down the highway and a new Si with I/E was flying by (or trying to, at least). I wasn't about to let that happen. So naturally I downshift and leave him behind. He turns off and I begin driving normally again. 5th gear doing 55 (~2300).

Pulling up to a stoplight I notice my oil light flicker. So I pull over into a gas station parking lot, and as soon as I yanked the e-brake, the light was staying on. Upon killing the motor I stepped out to investigate. I looked behind to where I had pulled into the space -- the street was wet and I had rainbow PUDDLES leading up to my car. I looked under the car and there lie a half-quart of oil. Great.

I felt around the pan and there was nothing. Oil filter housing had no trace of anything leaking from it, but I had oil EVERYWHERE, making an on-site diagnosis impossible. And I forgot to mention, the motor was running fine before I turned it off.

So my friend and I tore into her today. We started by pulling the left subframe and DP down, thinking it was the oil pan we would be pulling. Well, after some harder thinking we decided to pick up 5 quarts of some poo-oil and start the car in order to locate the leak. So I put in the oil and start the car, with my friend laying beside it, watching everything. After about 5 seconds of the motor running he told me to shut it off and showed me where all the oil was coming from. It had only leaked about 1/4 of a quart, but it leaked that in a rather quick manner. It was coming from behind the timing cover. It appeared to be coming from behind the crank pulley, so naturally we hypothesized the rear main seal.

I just want some reassurance that we are correct in our thinking, or someone to call me an idiot and state their educated guess so it may be evaluated by myself and fellow DSMers.

Thanks for reading my novel! I tried to be as descriptive as possible! If it ends up that nobody can help out and needs a video of it, I may be able to arrange it.

Take it easy and God bless

Well you have your choice of 3 (the rear main seal is out wrong end of engine) So you are down to front main / oil pump or ballancer seal. The only way to tell for sure is remove the tining belt cover and restart it and see where it's coming from.

The rear main seal is a good start but I would also suggest checking the oil pump sprocket and surrounding areas. It could be the oil seal but if it's not missing it shouldn't pour out like that. Hope I could help.

Yea, I figured I would have to remove the TBC, but thanks for the correction and response!!
